Honestly, I went to watch the movie expecting to kill myself by the end of it. But it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. I had high hopes from Sunil Grover and he lived up to it for most part of the film. Zakir Hussain delivered a mind-blowing performance as D, who was one of the most-feared don in our country and who has settled in Karachi. I'm sure you've guessed which don he has played in the film by now. Sunil Grover plays the role of a journalist, Arnab Goswami to be precise, but with a twist.

Arnab Ghosh (Sunil Grover) is a prime time journalist with a leading news channel. Thanks to his provocative and overpowering interviews, no politician agrees to appear on his show and he is soon demoted to an earlier slot. Unhappy with his demotion, Arnab plans to come back with a bang and that's when a unique idea strikes him.

For a movie that's barely two hours long, Coffee with D packs in high intensity torture in a short span of time. A supposed comic satire that hopes to mock the state of Indian news channels, this one manages little beyond lewd humour and tacky production values. It is a film where the lead decidedly mimics that infamous news anchor and inadvertently packs in a loose Shah Rukh Khan impression. While the world's most wanted and feared don is, for some reason, portrayed as someone who can't stop giggling. But given the grade of humour this film packs in, the giggles won't translate beyond the screen.

This is a what-if idea carried to an extreme of satirical eventuality but laced with lots humour and saved from a catastrophic plunge to inanity by actors who know how to hold the dialogues even the words run all over the place. Coffee With D suffers from a fundamental flaw. It presumes that a film about a clash between Dawood and Arnab (the Gangster and the Newshound) would generate instant drama.

Arnab Ghosh (Sunil Grover) is a table-thumping, loud-mouthed journalist modelled after a popular prime time news anchor. His antics, though they generate ratings, fail to amuse the channel boss, who relegates him to a less important slot as the host of a cooking show. Disturbed by the demotion and with a heavily pregnant wife (Anjana Sukhani), he decides to go for the big kill - an interview with the dreaded don D (Zakir Hussain). He lures the don out to grant him an interview and accompanies a fashion writer (Dipannita Sharma) and his two-man crew to Pakistan.
