COMMANDO 3 is the story of a secret agent in a race against time to save his country. In Mumbai, two young kids - Usman and Omar - are arrested along with their mentor, Subhan after a tip-off. It is revealed that Umar and Omar's real names were Rakesh and Amit respectively and they converted to Islam after watching provocative propaganda videos of Buraq Ansari (Gulshan Devaiah).

The story starts with a provocative speech by a masked man who's planning an attack on India. Then we see some people from Mumbra (Mumbai) try to create a chaotic situation by slaughtering a cow for the beef. Then we see school girls getting molested by some wrestlers. Why am I telling you all this? Because that's what we see before Karan (Vidyut Jammwal) entered to actually start the film (or that's what I thought so).

The latest movie in the Commando series starring Vidyut Jammwal manages to be both ugly and dull. The main theme of Commando 3 is a barely-disguised loyalty test for the Muslims of India. The plot itself is a cut-price version of the average nationalist thriller in which a bunch of government agents race against time to nab a deadly terrorist.

Making an action film is no rocket science, perhaps explaining their deluge in Bollywood. However, only a few stay true to the genre and that's where Commando 3 deserves credit - it hits the spot with its action. The kicks, punches, back-flips, smooth landing and hand-to-hand combat scenes look as clean and real as they can be.

One Word Review... Commando 3: MEDIOCRE. Keeps you hooked in first half, despite thin plot... Action is its USP and Vidyut excels in it... Gulshan Devaiah is devious, truly fantastic... Predictable twists [second hour] and tame climax are roadblocks.

While COMMANDO (2013) was about the rough and tough dare devil Karanvir Singh Dogra fighting for the safety of a woman, its sequel which surprisingly took 4 years COMMANDO 2: THE BLACK MONEY TRAIL (2017) focused on bringing the black money back to India, its third installment in 2019 COMMANDO 3 focuses on bhai chara and ekta - the Hindu Muslim unity which forces dreaded international terrorist like Buraq taste his own medicine.

Watch Aditya Datt's Commando 3 only if you want to to lose your sanity. Commando 3's Karanveer Singh Dogra, is one of those brainless, muscular Indian agents, who can neither act nor fight. If it were not for some clever sound techniques during the shoddily-shot action sequences when our desi commando flattens terrorists in London, Vidyut Jammval's kicks, punches and all those incredible somersaults would have fallen flat.

I don't think I have seen a more vile start to a Bollywood film in recent times than in Commando 3. If the global Islamic terrorism trope wasn't enough in itself, the opening scene seems bent on inciting even more hatred against the Muslims than already exists. It insinuates their possible involvement in beef politics and lynchings; utterly mischievous, more so given the current tenuous state of affairs.

'Commando 3' gets into the thick of things right at the beginning when a police office chases down a group of misled youngsters, which, in turn, leads to a bigger revelation. In a bid to avert the impending terrorist attack, the bureau ropes in Karanveer Singh Dogra (Vidyut Jammwal), who is accompanied by Bhavana Reddy (Adah Sharma), to get to the root of the plan and bring the culprit to justice.

A study of Bollywood's Commando series could be the basis for a PhD in opportunism. Commando: A One Man Army, released in 2013, was about a loyal Armyman being abandoned by the Indian government when he is caught in enemy territory. Off screen, India got a new government in 2014 and with it arrived the Hindi film industry's open subservience to the establishment.

In his last outing, Commando Karanvir Singh Dogra (Vidyut Jammwal) found his way to foreign shores to follow the trail of ill-begotten wealth of the powers that be. That was quite an adventure what with several twists. Turns out, his adventure in the third edition is not half as much fun. This once the discovery of a few misguided young men, indoctrinated by Jihadis who are planning a destructive coup to instill fear among Indians, sets the ball rolling for our hero.
