Plot
Jai (Siddharth Malhotra) and Dia (Katrina Kaif) are childhood sweethearts. Jai is a Mathematics scholar who grows up to a talented professor and Dia takes further her love for arts, paintings and turns into a renowned artist.
Their life witnesses an unusual turn as Dia proposes Jai for marriage. Like many young, confused youths Jai gets scared of all the responsibility and compromise that come with marriage, considering it a hindrance in his career. Then starts the time travel twists that take Jai to the future and shows him glimpses of his life in parts.

One Line Review: A romantic drama of two childhood sweethearts with the time travel twists and few likable elements. Positive Points: Screen presence of two gorgeous looking actors Katrina Kaif and Siddharth Malhotra. A fresh angle to the story of two childhood lovers with an interesting concept. Smooth narration and transition of frames while dealing with past and present, making it comprehensible. The film has been shot at the backdrop of beautiful locales which is pleasing for the viewers. Negative Points: The length of the film is stretched due to a few dragged sequences. Second half of the film is troubled with loopholes. Plot: The narration of the story is not linear. States the rest. Direction and other Technical Aspects: Taking up this distinctive concept, director Nitya Mehra has done a noteworthy job. The story telling and narration is good. The comic elements that are added to the films are a pleasure. The particular rice grain scene where Dia’s father gifts Jai a grain of rice and, a few others, are lovable. The dialogues are apt with praiseworthy transition of scenes. The smooth flow of frames is another plus point. The concept is interesting with a beautiful underlining message. The film suggests the significance of the present moment which we easily blow away in our day to day lives due to situations and certain circumstances, that appear to be big at that point of time. Performances: Siddharth Malhotra is average in the role of a guy who constantly is faced with time travel twists. His expressions are quite static, though his presence and good looks charm the viewers anyway. Katrina Kaif has a fabulous body frame and she is no less than perfection in the movie. Her acting skills and dialogue delivery have bettered a lot over the years. Still there is always scope for improvement. All other supporting actors manage to put up a good act. Music: The music is one of the major highlights of the film and so is the background score. All the songs are lovable and catchy. One can’t just stop humming songs like Sau Aasmaan and Kala Chashma among others. Final Verdict: For all those who like watching love stories, this film will be a treat. It is a regular romantic drama with time travel twists and lovable comic elements. The film sure has its share of flaws but it can be shadowed under the interesting concept of time travel and Katrina and Siddharth’s gorgeous screen presence, they indeed manage to light up the screen.

Nitya Mehra's debut outing as a director with Baar Baar Dekho is certainly a promising one. She treats this story with a lot of sincerity; a subject which in itself is a challenge to sell to the audience. A movie based on time travel transcends through different eras. In Baar Baar Dekho, the director reflects the journey of Jai Verma (Sidharth Malhotra) and Diya (Katrina Kaif) and the dramatic twists that follow.
From Groundhog Day (1993) to The Time Traveller's Wife (2009), time travel films zip into the future to offer a peek into the consequences of one's actions or retract in time, to allow one to mend ways and the future will be orange (not a Trump reference). But the preachy prose here demands that you appreciate your loved ones and your job shouldn't supersede your life. But if you're a Dharma devotee - you already know - it's all about loving someone or the other.
Baar Baar Dekho is the sort of name for a film that would suggest you could watch it more than once. But the story on offer in this time-hopping romance is pointless and the only thing that manages to impress is the futuristic production design of the movie. Its rare to see such good and functional use of future tech in Hindi movies, but that's exactly what director Nitya Mehra's movie does. Its packaging of a futuristic love saga is nice. Sadly, the idea of a man finding out the meaning of love is clichd and his journey rather daft. The movie looks good, but the writing let's it down.
The last Dharma film Kapoor & Sons, a tale about estranged brothers and a dysfunctional family, had really won our hearts and so, when Baar Baar Dekho was announced, it was assumed that it would be another heart-warming and relatable tale. Though Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra charm, this predictable and unnecessarily long and prolonged rom com wrapped in such a boring mumbo jumbo about time travel that we finally just don't care. Inspired from 'number' of time travel flicks and named after the peppy song from Shammi Kapoor starrer from the early sixties CHINA TOWN, first timer Nitya Mehra's BAAR BAAR DEKHO N tries to disarm the run of the mill love story with a pinch towards time and time you need to spend for your valentine.
Are you guys terrified of Maths just like I have been all my life? So, let me explain why I am starting my film review with a rather calculative subject. Debutant director Nitya Mehra's 'Baar Baar Dekho' is not about Math as such, but it does remain at the heart of it. Yes! Sidharth Malhotra aka Jai Varma is a genius when it comes to calculations. He is a professor and wants to research further on Vedic Mathematics.
Jai (Sidharth Malhotra) is a genius who wants to make it big in the world of mathematics. His research papers are accepted at various schools throughout the world and he is patiently waiting for a call from the Cambridge University, his dream destination. But before that he has to get married to Diya (Katrina Kaif), a girl fond of her family and India.
I wonder if Katrina Kaif is good at poker. In Baar Baar Dekho, Kaif wears an all-encompassing blankness, looking like a striking but not altogether realistic waxwork. She's a vision, albeit one whose accent-soaked Hindi -- more unbearable than ever -- gets in the way of possible appreciation, and I wager she'd be an unnerving opponent on a card table, one both stealthy and distracting. Cast in a film, however, her blessings are less obvious. Particularly with a co-star not known for any acting talent either, in a film where a feeble script is built on constant, relentless revelations with artlessly expository dialogues.

The concept of an individual getting a glimpse of their future and coming back in time to correct the present has been repeatedly visited by Hollywood. It has not, however, been explored in contemporary Hindi commercial films so when Delhi boy Jai Varma (Sidharth Malhotra) wakes up one day after a fight with his fiance Diya Kapoor (Katrina Kaif) to find himself fast forwarded in time and place to their honeymoon in Thailand, it is natural to expect an unconventional film.
Bearing the brunt of his 'going to sleep and waking up in a new time period' routine, is his 'abs'olutely stunning wife Dia Kapoor (Katrina Kaif), who's the 'driver' in their relationship. She's too clingy, he's too disinterested and busy with his calculations to notice her unconditional love for him. The film unravels what lies ahead for these childhood sweethearts.

BAAR BAAR DEKHO is a couple's roller coaster ride, which mirrors the ups and downs of their lives. The film starts off with the birth of Jai Verma and Diya Kapoor in Delhi and London respectively. Post that, Diya Kapoor's family settles down in India (Delhi, to be specific). As 'time' progresses, Jai and Diya grow up together and fall in love with each other. After years of knowing each other, one day, when 'painter' Dia proposes marriage to the 'Maths obsessed Professor' Jai, he becomes petrified with the very thought of marriage.
Good-looking places, good-looking people, good-looking everything else. If there is one thing Nitya Mehra's Baar Baar Dekho gets right, it is how to exploit everything good-looking in the vicinity. For most part of the songs, that falls on Katrina Kaif's abs - the most-talked-about part of the film as of now.
What if we get the chance to rectify all the big mistakes of our life? And what if a magical wand takes us into the future to personally witness all those critical twists and turns on the road journey of life where we may swerve into the wrong lane? And then, what if we get a chance to revise our actions and deeds accordingly? Debutant director Nitya Mehra's Baar Baar Dekho is unlike any romantic yarn - I hesitate from giving it that loosely-used term the 'rom-com'. It is the ultimate what-if saga, narrated with a tender care and subdued splendour that makes every moment between the lead pair precious and gladdening.
