If you have been waiting for a family entertainer, 'Happy Bhag Jayegi' is the answer to your prayers. Director Mudassar Aziz, who last directed 'Dulha Mil Gaya' in 2010 brings a laughter riot which has all possible ingredients to lighten your mood. Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Sheirgill), an aspiring MLA of Amritsar is extremely fond of Happy (Diana Penty) and will soon tie the knot with her. But things are not that simple as Happy is in love with her college crush Guddu (Ali Fazal).

It's neither a Runaway Bride remake nor is it borrowed from Pyaar Ke Side Effects. The only connect is that the bride leaves her house in a hurry. From there, Happy Bhag Jayegi rises on its own and is a surprisingly good entertainer. An Amritsari strongman and local corporator Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Shergill) is paying his tributes to Sunny Deol by dancing to 'Yaara O Yaara' when his would-be wife Harpreet aka Happy (Diana Penty) goes missing.

A Punjabi girl called Happy is played by one of India's most popular model-turned-actors, and in a promotional song, dances with Mika Singh. Yes, you can understand the kind of character Happy is by that pitch. All bubble, very loud, spontaneous, 'Geet-like' (Well, Diana Penty is not as good as Kareena Kapoor of 2007's Jab We Met yet and neither is Mudassar Aziz an Imtiaz Ali to write complex female characters). Happy has no larger meaning to her. Other than a big cliche and a tool to set up comic situations throughout the two-hour long film, Happy has no other point.

Feisty and foolhardy, Amritsari kudi Happy (Diana Penty) escapes from her own wedding to be with her beau Guddu (Ali Fazal). This infuriates her would be groom - wannabe politician Bagga (Jimmy Sheirgill). Confusion ensues when Happy doesn't end up with either and accidentally lands up in Pakistan. She bumps into Bilal (Abhay Deol), a budding politician and sparks fly. But he is engaged to Zoya (Momal Shiekh). Who gets the girl?

What do you get when you mix Aanand L Rai's sensibilities as a producer, actors like Abhay Deol, Jimmy Sheirgill, Piyush Mishra and Javed Khan in a cross-border comedy about a bride on the run? A simple, sweet and delightful fare, of course! Happy (Diana Penty) does a 'Runaway Bride' in order to avoid being married to corporator Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Sheirgill) and to get reunited with her college sweetheart Guddu (Ali Fazal). However, to her utter shock, she lands up jumping in the wrong truck and ends up in the residence of Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol), a reluctant politician being groomed by his ambitious father (Javed Sheikh), who wants to change the history of Pakistan.

HAPPY BHAG JAYEGI starts off in Amritsar, where happens an Indo-Pak agro conference. Presiding over this crucial conference is Javed Ahmed (Jawed Sheikh), the ex-governor of Pakistan, who wants his dearest son Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol) to enter politics just like him and 'change the history of Pakistan'. Even though Bilal's heart lies in becoming a cricketer, he sacrifices his professional desires for the sake of his father.

There's a lot of love for the whimsical girl in our movies. People in the movie are floored by her charming irreverence. People outside the movie are fans of her offbeat rebellion. But, bank blindly on her myth without a lively subtext for her actions and the template is as exciting as flat soda.

In Amritsar, Happy (Diana Penty) is getting married to the local corporator Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Shergill). On the other hand, Pakistani ex-governor, Javed Ahmed (Javed Khan) and his son Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol) are attending a conference in India. Since Happy is in love with Guddu (Ali Fazal), the duo decide to elope together. When Happy escapes from her wedding, she jumps into a wrong truck which goes to Pakistan along with Bilal Ahmed's convoy.

Written and directed by Mudassar Aziz, Happy Bhag Jayegi is the story of Amritsari bride Happy (Diana Penty) who runs away on the day of her marriage ceremony. Even as the groom is readying himself for their mandap, Happy boards the wrong escape vehicle and ends up in Pakistan. While her husband-in-waiting Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Sheirgill) and her boyfriend Guddu (Ali Fazal) desperately search for her, she creates havoc in the lives of a budding politician in Lahore, Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol), and his fianc Zoya played by the Pakistani actress Momal Sheikh making her Bollywood debut here.

A wedding scuttled, a suitor snubbed and a bride on the run are time-tested ingredients of a comic romp. Happy Bhag Jayegi has all this and more and yet is only mildly diverting when it isn't overly desultory. An Amritsar lass in love with a college mate of hers runs away from her engagement ceremony soon after the smarmy corporator she is due to marry does a full-on Sunny Deol dance of joy.

What if an Indian girl wakes up in Pakistan one fine morning? And what if she finds, gasp, the one she's looking for across the border? The premise of Happy Bhag Jayegi, promises you some good chuckles because, well, who doesn't like the idea of a pretty girl on the run in search of her Prince Charming? And the Pakistani locations-the scenic spots around Lahore- should inject some freshness, right?
