Every film, good or bad, gets made in two phases. One's the concept where the filmmaker decides what he wants to make. The second is where he uses the craft and techniques of filmmaking to execute his ideas. A film like PK starts at the very top in its first phase. The creative scope of such a subject is beyond brilliant. But as you start constructing it in celluloid it starts losing bits of its fancy. There's no rocket science to where this analogy ends. But a film like PK offers the right kind of resistance. Rajkumar Hirani's guile as a storyteller adds to the experience. A great concept goes through an average execution to reach a climax that is good if not great. Had this not been a film by Aamir Khan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Raju Hirani such criticism would've been unfair.

Aliens don't lie and naturally, they don't believe in deception either. This is what Rajkumar Hirani's seemingly nave but awesomely feel-good perception of the living beings from a planet from the neighbourhood is. And as expected this movie reflects the same sentiments throughout. In his characteristic lovable, trusting way, Hirani tells us yet another powerful and brave story. Not so long ago, Akshay Kumar starrer 'OMG' took us through the follies of blind faith, now 'pk' takes it a step further and strips a few godmen (God's managers as 'pk' would like to refer to them) off of their white robes and fearlessly shows us some naked truth.

The clueless PK (Aamir Khan) seems out-of-sorts and confused. He's a Bihari - speaking, paan chewing fellow who steals clothes from "dancing cars" (we leave you to decipher that one) and money from temples. Innocent, often unclothed, and confused by the complexities of life including religion and clothing (what he calls "fashion"), our guileless friend is often mistaken as being drunk (hence the name PK). Who he is, you must find out on your own.

Rajkumar Hirani makes a splendid comeback! Hits it off with a bang in `PK`. Released at the end of the year, this Aamir Khan starrer is sure to take away all the brownie points. It's difficult to convince you of our impartiality with such a header, but this is where our job begins. In my defense, I begin by telling you that PK is the most 'different' Aamir Khan film you have ever seen. Now, let's start cracking the code. PK (Aamir Khan) is not his name. In fact, he has no name. His clan doesn't believe in alienating people on their name, caste, creed, language or religion. Sounds like the preamble of our Constitution? Well, this is the essence of director Rajkumar Hirani's PK. And it is high on emotions and full of drama.

'PK'. And who is PK? A guy in madly printed shirts, buttoned tight around the neck, eyes glinting green, mouth ringed paan-red. And what is PK? A voice of wisdom and reason, in a Bhojpuri accent. (Read: Aamir Khan - The versatile, Dhoom-ster and PK) Laden with so many distinctive tics, the lead character in Rajkumar Hirani's latest could have been a mess. But Aamir Khan plays PK not only to his strengths, but adds something new: we've seen his earnestness several times before, but not artlessness. That lack of guile leads us to believe in PK, and makes the film, up till the seamless first half, a terrific watch.

How must it feel to look at life through really wide eyes? Cynicism is always easier than sincerity, and few filmmakers can nail the latter quite as consummately as Rajkumar Hirani, an old-school teller of fables who specialises in giving his audiences lumps in their throats. His are comforting films, ones with their edges sanded off and their seams showing, films unashamedly lacking in subtlety because he chooses to paint only in broadstrokes.

A story with multiple layers that deal with human emotions at its best. This film is exemplary of what we call unravelling the true human nature and at its best the Indian way of living. We are the ones who break laws, believe in unworthy and fraud Godmen, take each other's lives in the name of religion and in this upside down world when a person like PK enters, there is a lot to explore.

When the same actor-director pair of the outstanding 3 Idiots comes together on celluloid, the expectations are huge. But that's something both Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have always known and they were expected to soar beyond them. However, their latest offering, PK, somehow doesn't quite measure up to their own standards. It falls short on many levels. The film begins with an alien's (Aamir Khan) landing on Earth. When his 'remote' (which would enable him to return to his planet) is stolen, he is stranded. On a new planet with people and diversities he doesn't understand, he is also given a new name (PK), quite by circumstance. He soon meets news reporter Jaggu (Anushka Sharma) who is fascinated by PK's novel take on things and people.

After an entire year of being subjected to unalloyed trash generated by box office sharks that cannot see beyond their weekend collections, Bollywood enthusiasts who value their intelligence - and their hard-earned money - finally have reason to rejoice. PK is here. Rajkumar Hirani's first film in five years is a warm, funny and piercingly provocative satire that should blow the blues away. It is the kind of full-blooded but genteel entertainer that should get us all into just the right frame of mind to usher in Christmas and bid adieu to a year that has seen us celebrate ugly excess on all fronts with unseemly glee.

After making 3 Idiots in 2009 it took five years for Rajkumar Hirani to find the right story to make a come back. Clearly he was making sure he only lives up to the sky high expectations and raises the bar once again. In Munna Bhai MBBS he questioned the medical system, in Lage Raho Munna Bhai he introduced Gandhigiri and in 3 Idiots it was Rancho doing his own number and questioning the education system. Now Rajkumar Hirani takes on the much hyped Godmen in India.
