SHAKEELA is the biopic of the adult star Shakeela. The year is 1990. Shakeela (Kajol Chugh) is a young school girl living in the small town of Vallamkulam, Kerala with her parents and a couple of siblings. She belongs to a poor family and his mother is constantly upset over their condition.
Almost 10 years after Milan Luthria's The Dirty Picture comes another biopic on an actress associated with sex on the screen. Shakeela features Richa Chadha in the kind of role Vidya Balan won accolades for in Dirty Picture.
The inexplicable decision to send the titular protagonist into "a dream state" in order to get her to come clean about her life and work and the rather strange choice of Richa Chadha to play the role of a 1990s Malayali softcore adult actress are only two of the many things that Shakeela, written and directed by Indrajit Lankesh, gets horribly wrong. But these are bad enough. They undermine the film irretrievably.
Inspired by a true story, 'Shakeela' is a biopic of the adult south Indian actress, chronicling her life - from her humble beginnings at a small town in south India to the highs and lows of her eventful career.
