Set somewhere around 1857, the story has an emperor in Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi) who rules his district of Uyyalawada. He gets introduced way after a long montage of Rani Laxmi Bai's motivational speech to her soldiers and how the British took over India. To unite every leader in the state, Narasimha decides to bring them together for a carnival.

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi), belonging to a royal clan, hated the British since his childhood. He grows up to become a freedom fighter, uniting different principalities under a common banner and making life hell for the British. He doesn't believe in an armed struggle by a few princes but in a people's movement. As he feels it's ultimately the common masses who will one day drive away the foreigners.

The first war for Indian Independence, which happened in 1857, was a defining moment in India's history. It sowed the seeds for a long freedom struggle and right from the rulers to the countrymen, everyone knew who they were fighting against. But then, it wasn't the first rebellion against the British empire, and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy tells the story of one such uprising which happened in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. Directed by Surender Reddy, the film explores the circumstances which led to the rebellion and how one Polygar, Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, united everyone around him to fight for a common cause.

It succeeds only sporadically. Chiranjeevi's charisma hasn't waned one bit. He holds parts of the film together but an uneven screenplay prevents Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy from serving up anything more than a showy basket of tricks that are superficial at best.

SYE RAA NARASIMHA REDDY is the story of India's first chapter of freedom struggle. The year is 1857. Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi) plays Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy son of a Polygar (territorial administrative and military ruler of Uyyalawada). Narasimha is against British Raj and wants to end their rule. Guru Gosayi Venkanna's (Amitabh Bachchan) advices him to gain strength, wisdom and plan his moves accordingly.

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy begins with a disclaimer that the film is not intended to hurt the sentiments of any particular person, community, caste or religion. When you see a disclaimer read out by Ram Charan, you know the makers have taken utmost care in retelling the story of Telugu freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. It is sad to see such disclaimers at the beginning of the film and it speaks volumes about the state of the country we live in.

The biopic Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is possibly the longest flashback in the history of the movies. It's 1857, and British troops are threatening to overrun Jhansi. Rani Lakshmibai (Anushka Shetty) gives her men a pep talk about a rebellion that had taken place a little over a decade ago. One man made it happen, the queen thunders, and if he could, so can you.

Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi) is the territorial administrative and military ruler of Uyyalawada. Following his guru Gosayi Venkanna's (Amitabh Bachchan) advice, he becomes a fierce warrior and leader. The just ruler is committed to doing the best for his subjects. Though he falls in love with the beautiful dancer, Laxmi (Tamannaah), circumstances force him to marry Siddhamma (Nayanthara).
