Aamir Khan Expresses Happiness Over Passing of Child Sexual Abuse Bill

Aamir Khan , who also came in news due to his popular show Satyamev Jayate recently, is very happy when he came to know that the parliament has passed The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Bill. This bill was earlier passed by Rajya Sabha in 2011.

This bill gives protection to children and punishment to those who get involved in child sexual abuse. According to the bill, special courts would be set up so that speedy trial of cases against the victims can take place which would also provide stringent punishment extending up to life term for offenders.

According to the Bill, "whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on children shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than seven years but which may extend to imprisonment for life and shall also be liable."

While winding up the debate in the Lok Sabha on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Bill, 2011, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath said, "The bill is gender neutral. It seeks to protect children from sexual offences...the burden of proof will be on the accused," It may be noted that in the 2nd episode of Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan had raised the issue of child sexual abuse, which had touched everyone's heart. He had also shown a workshop to prevent children from getting victim of it.

Some people believe that it is also the effect of his show which inspired the Lok Sabha to pass the bill immediately because he also wrote a letter to the government regarding passing the bill.
