Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was felicitated with the second highest French civilian award (Officer Dan Ordre Arts et des Lettres) in 2009 by the French government but since her father Krishnaraj Rai was sick at that time she could not go to receive the award.

She could not receive the award even last year since the French government postponed the ceremony in deference to the victims of the Mumbai bomb blasts.

However, she would be receiving the award this year in Mumbai on her birthday i.e. on 1st November. Amitabh Bachchan , Abhishek Bachchan & Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan are expected to attend the event.

It should be noted that Aishwarya happens to be youngest recipient of the honour. Other recipients of this award are Shah Rukh Khan , George Clooney and Meryl Streep.
