" Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a tribute from my team to the great athlete Flying Sikh of India Milkha Singh. Many people do not know the athlete's struggle and his history. So we wanted to show his life to all the people," said the veteran director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra during his guest speech at the opening ceremony of the annual national level sports Fest organized by Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in Delhi. The annual event is organized by the college in the Festival of Youth Sport'13. The director , being an alumnus of the SRCC college was invited as a chief guest for the ceremony. He was addressing the students and sharing his thoughts about his days in SRCC, his experience as a state-level swimmer , and his movies. He talked about his upcoming movie , a biopic based on the athlete Milkha Singh's life, ' Bhaag Milkha Bhaag '.
The director expressed that," We wanted to know people that how Milkha ji struggled hard and overcame all the obstacles in his life and won India's first gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. When we asked Milkhaji for permission on his biopic, he readily agreed to it and just charged one rupee."
"He is very down to earth person despite being a great athlete. Today's young generation should get the inspiration from him. He just hopes that youth will get inspired to win more gold medals for India after watching this movie, " Rakeysh concluded.
