An aristocratic set was erected for shooting of the song "Deewani Mastani" in upcoming period-drama ' Bajirao Mastani ' at Filmcity, Mumbai. The set was the recreation of Aaina Mahal of 'Mughal-E-Azam'. The song features the three lead actors Deepika Padukone , Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh , however the main focus of the track was on Deepika so it was essential for her to stand out of the crowd.

A source revealed that "As the song has been shot in Aaina Mahal, Sanjay didn't want the outfit's colour to overpower the set. The costume required a lot of layering and options were made in various colours like pink, red and gold. Eventually, Sanjay chose dhaani (a shade of green) as he felt it suited the setting,"
