Farhan Akhtar is linked up with the on-going IPL for a great cause. No folks, it's not for any film's promotion by Farhan. It is a unique tie-up between IPL and actor-director-singer Farhan Akhtar . He is turning to be a social activist nowadays, as he has come up with an excellent campaign. The name of his campaign is MARD, which denotes Men Against Rape and Discrimination.

This cause is very close to Farhan's heart. In order to spread awareness pertaining to rape and gender discrimination via social media, Farhan would be handing out 70000 moustaches in one of the grand matches between Kings IX Punjab ( Preity Zinta 's team) and Kolkata Knight Riders (SRK's team) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Well, it would be great to see many sports lovers supporting MARD by sporting a moustache.

The inception of MARD happened, when a Mumbai resident, Pallavi Purkayastha, who was a lawyer by profession, was sexually assaulted and then murdered by her building watchman. March 2013 is when Farhan Akhtar launched MARD campaign at a college concert in Bangalore. Akhtar performed at the event wearing t-shirt presenting MARD's logo on it.

This great cause was popularized by Farhan also through various social networking sites. Akhtar's tweets gained immense popularity. As mentioned in an interview, Farhan desires to promote MARD at schools, colleges and the other educational institutions. The ultimate message that MARD campaign want to spread is to respect the women.

Needless to say, it's a great step by Farhan Akhtar towards the betterment of the Indian society!
