The Bollywood news columns were recently showcasing the news about the ace filmmaker Karan Johar to debut as an actor in Anurag Kashyap 's forthcoming project, ' Bombay Velvet '. And Johar will be presenting his dark side in this flick, as he will be playing an antagonist in ' Bombay Velvet '. Reportedly, Karan Johar would be stepping in the shoes of Rustom Khurshedji Karanjia aka Russi Karanjia, the founder-editor of Blitz, India's first weekly tabloid.

Johar will be portraying the role of Kaizad Khambatta, a flamboyant persona with a devil-may-care attitude. The journalist Khambatta will be presented as a dynamic media "samrat" with his strings attached to Karanjia's personality. Karanjia is the one, whose fearless attitude was depicted with objectionable female images on the cover page of Cine Blitz magazine. He left no stone unturned to make his magazine reach the greater heights. The filmmaker Kashyap attested the news by saying that Khambatta is mainly a fictional character with negative shades. Kashyap also added that Karan will be playing a media mogul, who attempts to ressurect his empire. Many of the acting sequences were shot in Sri Lanka by Johar.

' Bombay Velvet ' has its roots dipped in the novel 'Mumbai Fables' written by Gyan Prakash. The movie features Ranbir Kapoor in the role of a boxer as well as Anushka Sharma and Raveena Tandon as Jazz singers.
