October producer Ronnie Lahiri: Varun Dhawan wants to be an actor more than a star
The film will have its world premiere today in Dubai and will hit the theatres on 13th April.
With October, Varun Dhawan is collaborating with director Shoojit Sircar for the first time. Both come from a totally different style of filmmaking and for this film, Varun completely surrendered himself before Shoojit. The director is making unconventional films since his initial days and only one man who has backed him from the very start is the October producer, Ronnie Lahiri. Ronnie has been working with Shoojit for more than 2 decades and understands his way of filmmaking better than anyone else. And even he was shocked to see how Varun himself wanted to work with the director. Varun is known as the commercial King of B-town and talking about him in an interview, Ronnie said that with October, Varun wants to be an actor more than a star.
Talking about Varun's casting, he said, "I never saw Varun’s films. But one day when he came and met Shoojit in his office, Shoojit sent me his picture. In it, he looked like a regular, boy next door. The best part was Varun was ready to completely surrender himself to the film. He never asked for the entire script and trusted Shoojit. For someone who has back to back commercial hits, Varun trusting a director who doesn’t do his kind of cinema showed his hunger for good roles. I think Varun wants to be an actor more than a star. That is what I have discovered about him in whatever time I have worked with him."
Also starring newcomer Banita Sandhu, the unique love story will the theatres on 13th April.
