The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan as the Goodwill Ambassador of Hepatitis.

Amitabh Bachchan has large followership in the world. Especially in India, he is actively heard, regardless of culture, social and economic background. The effect of his presence in the Polio eradication campaign has made World Health Organisation declare Amitabh Bachchan as the Goodwill Ambassador for Hepatitis in Southeast Asian region.

Voicing his opinion, the megastar said, "I am absolutely committed to the cause of Hepatitis. As a person living with Hepatitis-B, I know the pain and sufferings that Hepatitis causes. No one should ever suffer from viral Hepatitis."

"This association is expected to help strengthen WHO's efforts in reducing the high numbers of premature deaths and illnesses from viral Hepatitis which is not only causing hardships to individuals and families but also impacting health and development across the region," said Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director for WHO, Southeast Asia.

As per this newly formed association, the actor will be the part of public awareness campaign of Hepatitis. Its primary aim is to advocate the preventive measures and make people understand the process of early diagnosis and treatment of Hepatitis B.

Amitabh has earlier been the face of Polio eradication, anti-Tuberculosis, and Swach Bharat initiatives.
