International Media House names Jr NTR as a 'Possible Contender' for winning an Oscar

For quite some time now, speculations are rife that SS Rajamouli's RRR (2022) might be in the race for Oscars. However, a leading international media house has now named Jr NTR as a possible contender for the Best Actor award at the Oscars.

There have been rumors that the period drama will be India's official entry to the Oscars but nothing has been confirmed. However, Variety has now listed Jr NTR as the possible contender in the Best Actor category. Besides, RRR is also listed in the Best Picture category along with SS Rajamouli in Best Director category.

Noteworthy, RRR features N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris. It is a fictional story about two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), and their fight against the British Raj. Set in 1920, the plot explores the undocumented period in their lives when both the revolutionaries chose to go into obscurity before they began the fight for their country.

The film grossed ₹1,150–1,200 crore (US$150–160 million) worldwide, setting several box office records for an Indian film, including the second-highest-grossing film in India and the third-highest-grossing Indian film until it was surpassed by K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022) during its theatrical run.
