Ponniyin Selvan 2 Director Mani Ratnam Says 'Hindi cinema should quit calling itself Bollywood'

'Ponniyin Selvan 2's April 28, 2023 release has Mani Ratnam preparing. He discussed South Indian films' impact on world cinema at a panel on April 19, 2023. Chennai hosted the CII Dakshin Media and Entertainment Summit panel. Mani Ratnam claimed that if Bollywood stops calling itself Bollywood, people would stop calling Indian cinema Bollywood.

Mani Ratnam stated, “If Hindi cinema can stop calling themselves Bollywood, then people will stop identifying Indian cinema as Bollywood. I’m not a fan of the ‘woods’. Like Bollywood, Kollywood. We need to see it as Indian cinema on the whole.”

Filmmakers Vetrimaaran and Basil Joseph and actor-director Rishab Shetty also participated.

Aishwarya and Vikram reunite for 'Ponniyin Selvan' after Raavan. Lead actors include Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Ashwin Kakumanu, Mohan Raman, Sarathkumar, and Parthiban assist. Technical staff includes composer AR Rahman, editor Sreekar Prasad, and cinematographer Ravi Varman.

The 1955 novel 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' is based on. Aishwarya Rai's Oomai Rani jumps into the sea to save 'Ponniyin Selvan' at the end of the first film. Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions finance it.
