On the morning of Sunday, 10th December, the whole nation was in for a huge shock when Dangal fame actress Zaira Wasim shared a video on Instagram narrating a horrifying molestation experience by a by a middle-aged man on a Vistara flight when she was travelling from New Delhi to Mumbai. The obnoxious incident drew strong reactions by almost everyone. Molestation of women in buses, trains and autos is not a new thing in our country but what is alarming that now even slick modern aircrafts are not safe for them. Many leading ladies from the world of Indian television have also condemned the incident.

Recalling a similar sexual harassment case on a popular aircraft, popular television actress Tinna Duttaa says, “Well, the same incident happened with me a few months back on a jet airways flight and jet refused to take responsibility and charge of that man. The pilot and the air hostess, all they had to say was these things happen every second day why to create a ruckus-just calm down and get back to your seat! So, I am not sorry to say this but yes that’s how our country functions. No laws no strict measures were taken! You think she can bring a change? Be it a celebrity or a normal girl, no one is safe. And it will only increase with every passing day.”

Sneha Wagh

Another well-known TV actress, Sneha Wagh, too condemned the incident. “Absolutely hideous incident! Forget about being a famous person or a non-famous person, I have just one question, why aren’t women safe in our nation? Why is it so easy for men to eve tease or molest or even, for that matter, rape a woman? Why isn’t there a fear of strict laws against such hooliganism by men towards women?

Voicing her concerns, Jasmin Bhasin of Dil Se Dil Tak fame, says, “I feel extremely sad when I hear such things because I know how exactly a girl feels when such things happen as I have been there too at times in life. Zaira, men in our country need to change which unfortunately will take a lot of time so next time when you experience something like this slap the man hard enough publicly so that he never repeats such behaviour. At least we can create a softer world for our future generations by making men realize their indecency. Otherwise, they will not change. In fact, unfortunately, we live in a society where if you do not react loudly and try to react decently in such situations this male dominating work will blame you only that if you had an issue why didn't you slap me. These few shameless breed of men who do not know how to make women feel safe should be punished so hard that their generations know about it and do not dare to repeat it."

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have arrested the accused, identifying as Vikas Sachdev.
