It was disclosed in the season 5 teaser that this time, the show will feature commoners. Common people are reportedly expected to participate in the show for the first time ever.

Two girls who are Bigg Boss fans can be seen in the teaser asking questions about the show. If Bigg Boss Malayalam 5 would have fitness freaks and riding females is a question that fans ask Mohanlal. They curiously inquired as to whether the programme will have a "Kalippan Doctor," alluding to Robin Radhakrishnan, a former contestant. The celebrity responds that the "original people" in this season will light the stage on fire.
