“Contrary to media reports, I didn’t run away and get married” – Bhagyashree reveals the story behind her marriage on Star Plus’ Smart Jodi

After the mega-success of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (1989), everybody expected actress Bhagyashree, who starred opposite Salman Khan in the romantic drama, to go on a signing spree. However, the actress surprised the world by getting married to businessman Himalay Dassani. Bhagyashree, who is participating in the reality show ‘Smart Jodi’ on Star Plus, got emotional while talking about the circumstances in which she got married to Himalay.

In a recently released promo of the show, Bhagyashree can be seen reminiscing about the time she got married to Himalay against the wishes of her family. Even Himalay’s family, she shared, was not in favour of this union.

Bhagyashree stated that nobody from her family turned up for their wedding. She shared that she did tell her parents about her wish to get married to Himalay but they were, for some reason, not fine with the idea. The couple had no option but to get married to each other without the blessings of any of the elders from the two families.

Talking about the way the media shared misinformation about her marriage, she said, “Contrary to media reports, I didn’t run away and get married. I was very upset with the media for spreading such lies. Even today, they write such things about my marriage.”

A teary-eyed Bhagyashree also said that while children must respect their parents, the parents must also respect the dreams and beliefs of their children and let them live their lives the way they wish to.
