So finally, Bollywood has its own 'Die Hard'. The Los Angeles skyscraper is turned into a glitzy Mumbai hospital, Bruce Saviour-In-A-Singlet Willis is played by our own Vidyut Jammwal, the estranged wife from the Hollywood blockbuster becomes a recovering-from-an-operation spouse (Rukmini Maitra), and the hard-nosed terrorists are led by a gun-toting Chandan Roy Sanyal who gets to say those immortal words every actor can kill for: Time To Tango.

Sanak is a Bollywoodised Die Hard. Instead of the Nakatomi Plaza, we have the Green Hills Hospital. In the iconic action film, Bruce Willis' character John McClane is an NYPD cop who has to save his wife from German terrorists. Here Vidyut Jammwal is Vivaan Ahuja, an MMA trainer who has to save his wife from multinational mercenaries who storm the hospital.

SANAK is the story of a man battling an army of guys in a hospital. Vivaan Ahuja (Vidyut Jammwal) is happily married to Anshika (Rukmini Maitra). On their 3rd marriage anniversary, they find out that Anshika is suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that can prove fatal if she doesn't go for an immediate surgery. The cost of the treatment is Rs. 70 lakhs and Vivaan sells his flat as he is running short of money.

A happy couple is struck by bad days when the wife is diagnosed with a rare heart problem. A surgery cures her but destiny has different plans. A terrorist attack in the hospital leads to her been taken hostage and the husband who is a former MMA trainer has to save his lady from the bad men.

If your idea of having a good time at the movies is Viduyt Jammwal flexing his muscles and breaking bones, then, you're in for a blessed treat at the movies this week. For the rest, I guess, it's better to enjoy the long weekend bingeing on a web series. Sanak is loaded with action but is completely devoid of perspective.

It's child's play as a civilian single-handedly faces a bunch of heavily armed terrorists at a hospital. The man's wife, whom he fondly calls "Baby", is admitted there. An actual baby needs rescuing. There's a boy who knows too much about guns and explosives for somebody his age.

In the 1988 action film Die Hard, John McClane (Bruce Willis) must save his wife when her office building is taken over by a group of heavily armed terrorists. In 2021, in Hindi film Sanak, Vidyut Jammwal plays Vivaan Ahuja, a MMA trainer with low blood sugar. His wife Anshika (Rukmini Maitra) is recovering from treatment for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), a genetic heart condition. All is well with her recovery until a group of heavily armed terrorists capture the hospital and take patients and staff hostage. Vivaan must save his wife and free the hostages.

The linear narrative of Kanishk Varma's Sanak is a battle between two opponents that make up the bulk of the proceedings-Vivaan Ahuja, the fit and muscled guy, and Saju (Chandan Roy Sanyal) with his band of skilled fighters who have taken all the people in the hospital as hostages.

There is a scene in Sanak where antagonist Chandan Roy Sanyal asks his colleague, "Kya Hindi picture jaise idhar bhi police late aayegi?" giving the audience a hint that the film is loaded with clichs. Sanak headlines one of Bollywood's biggest action stars - Vidyut Jammwal. So you know what to expect - loads of action, some daredevil stunts and one-liners written for his hardcore fans.
