SS Rajamouli's Baahubali is an epic in two parts, narrated through spectacular visuals and amazing special effects, including a 30-minute battle scene helmed with admirable precision. However, beyond this, the film with a star-studded cast of Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty offers little else. The film suffers in terms of continuity, because the film's production took more than two years. The plot is about two royal cousins raised by the mother of one -- who decides that the strongest and the noblest of them would rule the kingdom of Mahishmati.

SS Rajamouli's first installment of Bahubali is finally out. The buzz surrounding the movie has made it the talk of the town. So whether the hype around the film is justified, whether it is the first pan Indian movie or it's another big splash of money masquerading as a piece of art . Here is our review. Film tells the story of a young man with superhuman abilities Shiva (Prabhas), a prince oblivious to his royal lineage, raised by a tribe after being smuggled out of his kingdom. Shiva is in love with Avantika (Tamanna Bhatia) who is an assassin in a rebel group living in a hideout.

Sivudu (Prabhas) is consumed by a desire to scale the waterfall by the edge of his hamlet right from his childhood, much to the chagrin of his doting mother. One fine day, he ascends the summit only to find out that it he is the son of Amarendra Bahubali, the crown prince of the kingdom of Mahishmati, who gets murdered by his first cousin, Bhalladeva (Rana).

Frankly, all of it. Extraordinary visual effects & a suitable background score enhance the film's plot. What absolutely stands out is the war sequence in the film; it took them 200 days to shoot the elaborate action. The detailing, precisions & sheer aggression of this war sequence makes 'Bahubali' a one of it's kind film. Bodies pile up faster than a city's garbage, and weapons from Indian tales are used most imaginatively. Yet you can't get enough of it! That it merges weaponry from Indian epics & Amar Chitra Katha with technical wizardry of 21st century VFX, makes this portion stand out from Hollywood comparisons.

Baahubali- The Beginning is the first part of the two part series (the second part being Baahubali- The Conclusion) which features Prabhas as the wildling, Shivudu who is not only born into greatness but also destined to do great things like his father King Amarendra Baahubali (also played by Prabhas in the film.) Unaware of his own lineage yet pulled towards it by an inexplicable urge, Shivudu lives a son of Mother Nature lives like Tarzan, dangling from dangerously high hills and until one day he is drawn towards an Apsara-like figure. This figure is Shivudu's imagination of the warrior princess Avantika (Tamannaah). Following the apparition, Shivudu finds himself close to a group of rebels (and his love interest Avantika is also a part of them).

Be warned. While watching 'Baahubali', you might have to periodically pick up your jaw off the floor. Because this is not merely a movie, it is an unbelievably thrilling fantasy ride. Thanks to SS Rajamouli's superb imagination in writing (screenplay by Rajamouli along with Rahul Koda, Madhan Karky and Vijayendra Prasad) and execution, this magnum opus turns out to be an experience that should be enjoyed only on the big screen.

Right from its opening frames, 'Baahubali' holds out many promises: of adventure and romance, love and betrayal, valour and weakness. And it delivers magnificently on each of them. This is full-tilt ,fully-assured filmmaking of a very high order. 'Baahubali' is simply spectacular. Many films have scale and spectacle. 'Baahubali' also has a story. And enough hooks to keep us engrossed through its close to two-and-a-half hours of running time.

As far as epics are concerned, Indian mythology is rich - both in magnanimity and intricacy of plot. SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' borrows the essence of a historical story complete with the god-like hero and the power-play of brothers fighting for the throne. Undoubtedly, he succeeds in making a great impression. Both Prabhas and Rana Dagubatti are larger than life brothers-turned-foes and the story follows there path of fighting for the kingdom of Mahishmati.

Scale of ambition: gargantuan. Quality of VFX: out of the ordinary. Content: only occasionally gripping. Final impact: pretty strong. That, in a nutshell, is SS Rajamouli's Telugu and Tamil fantasy epic Baahubali - The Beginning, which has been released nationwide in Hindi in collaboration with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The spectacular universe that the film conjures up is filled with magic, but the larger-than-life characters that populate its extraordinary expanse do not belong to any known mythic landscape.

Making a film is no easy task and making one that boasts of being India's costliest and grandest film till date on both budget and scale, definitely is a humongous challenge. But director S.S. Rajamouli attempts just that with his film BAHUBALI - THE BEGINNING, which is the first of a two part series that promises to be a saga that will most definitely go down the annals of history. Starting off, the story of BAHUBALI follows the life of Sivudu (Prabhas) who lives a rather solitary life all but cut off from the rest of civilization. Smuggled from his kingdom and raised by Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan) in a different tribe, Sivudu fills his days scaling mountains and their likes, unaware of his noble lineage.

As kids, if you loved reading Amar Chitra Katha and got lost in the world of evil rulers, heroic princes, loyal warriors and long-suffering mothers, SS Rajamouli's Baahubali-The Beginning is just the film for you. A grand and massive film made on an epic scale, Baahubali stars Prabhas as Shivudu, a prince, who has grown up among a local tribe after being smuggled out of the palace, unaware of his lineage and his destiny, who nevertheless gets drawn into a plot to rescue an imprisoned queen (his own mother) and rightfully claim the throne from his ruthless uncle Bhallal (Rana Daggubati).

Three years back I watched my first Telugu film on big screen and the experience was so awesome, I struggled to find the words that'd do justice to the wonderment I felt. It was an S S Rajamouli film named Eaga. And it was among my favourite films that year. I was awe-struck by Rajamouli's ambition, audacity and unbridled imagination, his distaste for subtlety and appreciation for over-the-top. How he understands the science of extremes and transforms absurd into advantage is the main reason I was looking forward to Bahubali-The Beginning, said to be the most costly Indian film so far.

A giant, golden statue of King Bhallala Deva is being erected in capital city of Mahishmati. Hundreds of slaves pull the multi-tonne monument, in an effort to erect it. One slave, old and exhausted, collapses and there's a domino effect. The half-raised statue starts falling, threatening the lives of a cluster of commoners who will be crushed if it falls to the ground. Just when it seems they're doomed, the statue halts in its descent. One man has picked up the fallen rope. One man with crazy biceps. The gathered crowd roars its thanks. Mr. Crazy Biceps grins and tugs the statue a little closer to standing upright.
