No one has ever witnessed anticipation and curiosity of this magnitude for a film before 'Baahubali 2'. It might be the grandest film in the history of South Indian films but it is no where close to the territory of logic. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film is high on melodramatic expressions, larger-than-life action sequences and a stupid logic behind the biggest question the nation has been pondering on- why Kattappa killed Baahubali? Not that the reviewer intends to reveal the plot, but, just to warn you all, the end may not surprise you as much as you may expect.

The story takes off exactly from where it ended in the first part. Shiva (Prabhas) has learnt about his heritage and now we are learning the back story of Amarendra Baahubali (Prabhas). Amarendra has been chosen by Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan) to become the next King of Mahishmati Kingdom. Before his swearing in ceremony, he is asked to take a tour of the regions under his leadership as a commoner, just to learn in depth about his people. On his tour, Amarendra meets Devasena (Anushka Shetty). She is a fiery princess who knows well when to use her sword. Impressed by her beauty and valor, Baahubali falls in love with her. While he is still in disguise as a commoner, Devasena too starts to harbor feelings for him.

Nearly 80 percent of the movie is set in establishing Amarendra Bahubali's love story and how it leads to his own demise, before his son takes over and makes things right for the kingdom of Mahishmati. Amarendra (Prabhas) is just a few weeks away from being appointed the king, when his adoptive mother and Queen Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan) asks him to tour the kingdom before his anointment, along with his trusted aide and uncle Kattappa (Sathyaraj). While doing so, he meets and falls in love with Devasena (Anushka Shetty), the fearless warrior princess of Kunthala.

In 2015, after the world watched BAAHUBALI : THE BEGINNING, it was a well-deserved bow to S.S. Rajamouli, Shobu Yarlagadda, Prasad Devineni and Karan Johar, the unprecedented stunner was a modern day epic classic for its staggering battles, striking landscapes, effects, brilliant filmmaking arc, exceptional cinematography, masterful storytelling with that rare cliff-hanger in the end : 'WHY DID KATTAPPA KILLED BAAHUBALI?.' Suddenly the wait for 2016 became intense and the world of Bollywood got introduced to the world of filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli who has an impeccable track record in Telugu cinema.

A couple of years ago, SS Rajamouli's epic drama Baahubali-The Beginning blazed across Indian screens and made every Indian ask, ''Why did Kattapa kill Baahubali?" and finally, the answer is here in the form of Baahubali-The Conclusion starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj and others. Starting off from where the prequel ended, Kattapa starts reciting the tale of Amarendra Baahubali (Prabhas) and Bhallal (Rana), the crown princes of Mahishmati.

For two years the nation has been wanting to know, the hysteria increasing with every passing day: why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? Smart viewers would probably have glommed the answer, but given that Baahubali 2 was made expressly for that purpose, we duly give it our time and attention. We get the answer, but only after long, infernally silly romantic interludes: romance is not really S S Rajamouli's strength. And everything after the big reveal, which really isn't half as big as was promised, seems like anti-climactic excess.

Baahubali: The Beginning, with its intriguing open-ended climax, had wound up with a teasing, million-dollar question: why did Katappa kill Amarendra Baahubali? Why indeed would a loyal soldier have betrayed his beloved master, we were left wondering. The Katappa conundrum whetted the curiosity of Baahubali fans and fanned a rare degree of craze, turning the follow-up into one of the most anticipated films in the history of Indian cinema. So here finally is the film that contains the much-awaited answer. The bigger question on our minds as Baahubali: The Conclusion unfolds is: is the sequel worth all the brouhaha? The scale and sweep of the no-holds-barred fantasy epic set in a spectacularly garish fictional kingdom are expectedly phenomenal.

If you thought Baahubali: The Beginning was a grand spectacle, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion will give you a cinematic orgasm. SS Rajamouli's magnum opus could potentially change the dynamics of Indian cinema, with its seamless blend of good ol' storytelling and marvellous, poetic visuals. Sabu Cyril, take a bow for the outstanding production design. In The Beginning, Rajamouli had taken us into the mythical kingdom of Mahishmati, which looks like something straight out of a painting. The tyrant king Bhallaladeva (Rana Daggubati) leaves no chance to taunt the shackled Devasena (Anushka Shetty).

Soon after watching SS Rajamouli's epic drama Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (also spelt as Bahubali), when you sit back to recount what you went through while watching the film, you're likely to ask yourself a fundamental question - why did we forget to be in awe of things around us? In an age of instant gratification and momentary pleasures, is it even possible that a work of art (a film in this case) could remind us of what we've long forgotten?

Over the past two years, the question dominating India's popular culture has been, quite simply, 'Kattappa ne Baahubali ko kyun maara," so much so that I realised from an interview of the film's phenomenal director SS Rajamouli, the query in itself is referred to in the abbreviation: "WKKB"-Why Kattappa Killed Baahubali (sic). At least based on my own spot-poll among work-mates, what's more significant is that people actually do not remember details of 'Baahubali: The Beginning' (2015), this film's prequel. Which is fair.

SS Rajamouli's biggest budget adventure, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, comes alive in its colossal and ambitious imagination to complete the unfinished story of Baahubali. It lives and loves in mythical cities that touch the cloud created with awe-inspiring finesse. Most importantly, why Kattappa killed Baahubali has been answered. The question in itself had the audience, catching an early morning show, on the edges of their seats but the fairytale of a story did have more to offer.

Amarendra Baahubali(Prabhas) and Bhalla Deva(Rana Daggubati) are cousins raised by the same mother, Sivagami(Ramya Krishnan) who is also the reigning Queen of Mahishmati. Amarendra is orphaned in his childhood and despite the fact that Bhalla is her own son, the Queen wants to crown Amarendra the King of Mahishmati because she feels that he has the true makings of a ruler and benefactor. Bhalla is peeved. His father and he conspire to overthrow Bahubali. And they use Kattappa(Sathyaraj) and the Sivagami as pawns in their game.

Everyone's curious to know the answer to this question: Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? We can guesstimate and offer varied versions and theories, but looking back, I don't think the moviegoers had an inkling of how the master storyteller, S.S. Rajamouli, would culminate the first installment of the epic saga BAAHUBALI and how the terrific cliffhanger would eventually become the talking point. I am also sure, Rajamouli must've not foreseen that the question -- Kattappa ne Baahubali ko kyun maara? -- would set off thesis, blogs and memes by movie aficionados across the globe. As a matter of fact, Baahubali, Bhallala Deva and Kattappa -- the iconic characters -- have captured the imagination of the movie-going audience like no film characters in the recent past.
