One Line Review: Don't watch this remake keeping your eye on the original masterpiece. Positive Points: Good Music, some fight sequences, few emotional scenes. Negative Points: Average screenplay, typical lame comedy, weak art direction, unsuitable costumes, predictable scenes, direction Plot: These Days lack of originality is becoming a serious disease in Bollywood. Here comes another remake of 1980's masala flick 'Himmatwala' starring Jeetendra and Sridevi. But remember, this remake has lots of changes from the original. 'Himmatwala' 2013 is a story of a son Ravi (Ajay Devgn) who has ran away from his village in his childhood due to some circumstances affecting his family. Ravi thinks that his whole family including his mother and sister has been destroyed when his house was set to fire by some goons in the village. But now, after some years he comes to know that his mother Savitridevi (Zarina Wahab) and sister Padma (Leena Jumani) is alive and living a very poor and difficult life in the village , Ram Nagar. He comes back to the village to take the revenge of the injustice made to his family. Few years ago, Ravi's father Dharam Murti (Anil Dhawan) a priest in the temple of the village has been falsely accused of a robbery in the temple by the cunning and sly Sarpanch, Sher Singh (Mahesh Manjrekar). Sher Singh is still the same and hasn't changed his shrewd behavior towards the villagers over the years. He has suppressed all of them and enjoys the position. He has a equally selfish and rude daughter Rekha (Tamannaah Bhatia) who not only hates the poverty but hates poor people as well. So again you will get to see the same good vs bad saga with an average masala with some twists in the story. Will Ravi be able to take his revenge from Sher Singh? How does Rekha and Ravi's hate relationship changes to love? Will Ravi be able to free the villagers from Sher Singh's ruling? Direction And Other Technical Aspects: Seems That Director Sajid Khan fails this time to impress the audience. But this is not the case with 'Himmatwala'. The remake even does not reach close to the original in the technical aspects like camera, costumes, dialogues etc. The story is predictable except for one big twist. Other than that, the camera work is an average. Art direction is strictly okay, and the usual Sajid Khan style double meaning dialogues (lame jokes) this time fail to make us laugh. The comedy is average as well. The director has not paid attention to the minute details which makes the movie just regular. The original one is far better and strong than its remake. Performances: Ajay Devgn who has given a splendid performances in the movies like 'Singham' , 'Yuva', 'The Legend Of Bhagat Singh' etc, can't replace Jeetendra in the remake. He looks aged in front of newbie Tamannaah Bhatia. Their pair does not have that chemistry which Jeetendra and Sridevi's pair had in the original. Tamannaah Bhatia has done her job well. She looks beautiful but at the end Sridevi is Sridevi. She can't create a deep impression on our minds. Mahesh Manjrekar does not suit at all in the baddie's role. Despite being a marvelous actor , Mahesh Manjrekar fails to portray a cunning bad man. Asrani and Paresh Rawal did their jobs okay. Others too gave an average performance. Music: Music by Sajid Wajid is good. All the songs except Bum Pe Laat are enjoyable. Specially 'Thank God It's Friday' is notable. Final Verdict: If you are a die hard fan of Ajay Devgn then you can go for it.
