The atmosphere is charged with conversations of murder, morality and crimes against kin. Talvar based on the Arushi murder case just released, the Sheena Bora murder case too is currently in the headlines. The country is really clued into the ideas. So Jazbaa and its themes of law and order, crimes against women and motherhood being sacrosanct are largely relevant.

From a former Miss World to a top actress to now a very involved parent, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's current real life role seems good reason for her to resume her acting career with a super mom act. In Jazbaa, she returns on screen after five years, to play an unbeatable lawyer and a doting mother.

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, known for remaking thrillers from abroad and adding his own masala (green masala? LOL), is back with another remake in the form of Jazbaa. Based on Korean flick Seven Days, Jazbaa, which stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Irrfan Khan amongst others, might not be Gupta's best film, but is certainly a treat for fans of the director.

Inside a mother beats a heart so fierce, that she will go all out to ensure the safety of her daughter; even if she has to turn black into white. This is exactly what Sanjay Gupta's JAZBAA (a remake of the Korean film Seven Days) is. JAZBAA puts mother in the forefront as she breaks all rules to see the safety of her only child... and seek revenge.

Jazbaa is Sanjay Gupta's return to his true form. A stylish gritty thriller that stays true to its genre and delivers courtesy a solid ensemble of performance heavy star cast. Before getting into the storyline of the film it is important to say that the film is the best come back vehicle Aishwarya Rai Bachchan could ask for. Not only does it do full justice to her talent, but it also shows her in a light that's no other director has been able to capture.

Sannjay Gupta's Jazbaa has had the audience's attention since the day the film was announced. And it was revealed that this was the film Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had chosen to return to the big screen with. However, Jazbaa is a lukewarm comeback for Rai Bachchan. The day the trailer released, people had their doubts about the film, and the film's release just justified those doubts. But more on that later.

Sanjay Gupta is known for infusing a certain degree of neo-noir beauty to his films. Well, when it comes to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's comeback thriller 'Jazbaa', it's an intoxicating mixture of pulsating drama and gripping acting.

In many ways, Jazbaa is the Irrfan Khan acid test. Not that Irrfan needs to be tested, of course. He is a superlative actor in the middle of an incredible run of form, and as we have seen from his sensational recent outings, he seems to just get better and better and better. However, those are wonderfully written parts in films helmed by fine directors, but does Irrfan have the bulletproof screen-presence required for blockbuster buffoonery?

Director Sanjay Gupta has successfully adapted foreign films in the past, and he has done it again. Jazbaa, a remake of Korean film Seven Days, gives wings to his imagination and he dreams the Maximum City in saturated colours. Sometimes it makes you feel caged inside a video game, but mostly it reminds the audience of Gupta's earlier films where wearing shades even in the darkest of the places was an integral part of the actor's swag.

A top female lawyer is forced into defending a criminal after her daughter is abducted. 'Jazbaa', based on Korean thriller 'Seven Days', is fashioned as a hard-edged courtroom-drama, where the protagonist wears sharp power trouser suits and wields a smart mind, and the tale is sprinkled with kinks, drugs, rape, violence and murder.

It is but natural for a Bollywood diva making a comeback to go hell for leather. Likewise, a consummate actor taking each scene as it comes, with customary poise, is par for the course. Together, however, they make Jazbaa, another flashy but torpid remake of a Korean thriller from Sanjay Gupta, a rather disorienting affair.

Anuradha Varma (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is a single mother and an extremely successful lawyer. She is anything but righteous and finds nothing wrong in defending those guilty. Yohan (Irrfan Khan) on the other hand is a cop who is undergoing a trial for corruption. He is Anuradha's childhood friend and hence urges her to fight his corruption case that has him suspended.

Apparently he is convinced and in turn has convinced the actress that that a tormented mother has to scream her guts out to show her distress over the kidnapping of her little daughter. If that's not pathetic enough, she has to wear a semi demented look with eyes brimming with glycerine. As a final step in hardcore performance, she has to run like there is no tomorrow. Rai who makes a comeback after five years with Jazbaa, scores full marks on all three counts.

You can take an actor away from the arclights, but you can never take away her talent. The last few years have seen comeback of many superstar actresses of Bollywood, namely, Madhuri Dixit (DEDH ISHQIYA, GULAAB GANG) and Juhi Chawla (GULAAB GANG), Sridevi (ENGLISH VINGLISH followed by the last week's multi lingual release PULI). This week will see the comeback (and a much awaited one) of none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who returns to Bollywood with JAZBAA (inspired by the Korean hit film SEVEN DAYS) after her last film GUZAARISH (released in 2010).

Aishwarya goes for the jugular in this crime thriller. Inspired by the South Korean thriller Seven Days, Jazbaa revolves around a divorced lawyer, who dotes on her pre-teen daughter. With a 100 per cent success track record, she knows how to get any criminal 'justice'. However, her world crumbles when her daughter goes missing. The kidnapper makes it clear that he is not interested in money. Rather, he tells her that the only way she will ever see her child again is to free a felon (Chandan) who faces rape and murder charges.

This movie is touted as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's comeback vehicle and she's got a meaty role to justify it. In an age-appropriate role, Aishwarya plays a successful lawyer, Anuradha Varma, who's also a single mother to her daughter Sanaaya (Sara Arjun). Anuradha feels no guilt fighting a case for criminals, as long as they can 'afford' her. But, soon enough, she gets caught in a trap where she's forced to defend a rapist and murderer because that is the ransom for freeing her abducted daughter.
