<strong>'Khoobsurat' will surely connect with girls of all ages</strong><br/> Khoobsurat does not have the same plot as the original Hrishikesh Mukherji film. It borrows bits and pieces from the Rekha-Rakesh Roshan starrer -- the discipline, the home run by the matriarch and the girl who comes and changes the atmosphere from gloomy to happy. Khoobsurat is modern day Cinderella, there is the prince and the common girl but instead of the evil step mother, there is a hyper real mother Manju (Kirron Kher).

<strong>Fawad Khan steals the show in this reverse gender chick flick</strong><br/> Ladies, say a thanks to whatever number wave of feminism that we're currently riding because our time may well be here. After Bobby Jasoos, in which Ali Fazal showed up almost exclusively to walk in slow-mo and make the romantic side plot with the film's lead Vidya Balan crackle, we've got another film that's directed largely at making estrogen levels surge.

Way too loosely based on the 1980 Hrishikesh Mukherjee Rekha-starrer of the same name, Khoobsurat begins in typical Disney fantasy style: No talking mermaids or lion cubs but a world in which Sonam Kapoor-she of chic glasses (read intelligent character) and designer jerseys-is the KKR team physiotherapist. She is Dr. Milli Chakravarty, a truly annoying girl that tries too hard to be unconventional, spunky and peppy-positive.

'Khoobsurat' is actually beautiful on the outside. Here we have the pretty, spontaneous girl Mili (Sonam Kapoor), bursting with energy and wearing gorgeous clothes, falling for the dark, reserved and drop dead handsome prince Vikramjit (Fawad Khan), who lives in a palace. Who wouldn't fall in love with such a story? But wait, does it have to be so simplistic that you can predict every move, every step that each of the characters are going to take? Those familiar with innumerable rom-coms being churned out of Hollywood mills would know that this script held no surprise, no twist, no nothing. A little more thought put into the script would have worked wonders for this beautiful film. Yes, 'Khoobsurat' is beautiful on the outside, with excellent production quality and it actually transports you to a fantasy world full of silverware, antiques and palatial opulence.

<strong>Sonam-Fawad nail it the Disney style</strong><br/> What if a free-spirited bird gets trapped into a gloomy cage. Well, the little bird will surely get chocked. Unlike Shashanka Ghosh's bird, which is as lovable as a Tweety cartoon, make things favorable for itself under any situation and amuses us at large.

The closest most of us will ever get to royalty is by attending a destination wedding at a Rajasthan palace. But Disney's Khoobsurat takes you in to the lives and luxuries of Rajasthani princely states. Through the story of a quintessential Delhi girl's tryst with a prince and his family, you too can roam the vast expanses of pure luxury. Experience the old world charm of an India mostly reserved for tourist brochures. And you can soak in all the opulence with a charming young adult romance. The likes of which are rarely seen in our cinema. It's fresh, it's fabulous and most importantly it's extremely fun.

<strong>Welcome to the royal misfit club of Fawad Khan, Sonam Kapoor</strong><br/> Before you assume that this 'Khoobsurat' is a remake of the classic 1980 Rekha starrer, which goes by the same name, wait and take a reality check. Yes, this one's way too different in terms of treatment and screenplay. Shashanka Ghosh directed 'Khoobsurat'-The Royal Misfit, is as good or real as Disney films are (if you have seen 'The Princess Diaries' or 'High School Musical).

I dreaded going into 'Khooburat', plagued as I was by dark thoughts of Kapoor's previous botched attempts at carrying off real characters, which ranged from the terribly twee ('Aisha'), to the mercifully short ('Bhaag Milkha Bhaag').

On face-value, KHOOBSURAT may just pass off as a fairy tale story that's taken straight out of the fable book with an overly strict mother of the house calling the shots for each and every single member in the household. But, KHOOBSURAT also shows the power of love and laughter, happiness, which can heal an ailing person, bring family members closer to each other and above all, help a person realize his true love. One would expect this film to be a fun filled joy-ride since this is Disney's first dream presentation in Bollywood. With the magical dream weavers at Disney at the helm of things, one, but obviously, would expect the film's makers to capitalize of the timeless classic term 'Disney Magic'. Whether KHOOBSURAT and its director live up to this term? Let's analyze.

What's Good: The fuzziness of fairytales and Fawad Khan who plays the blue blooded, emotionally cut-off prince with a regal touch. What's Bad: The high pitched, saccharine struck Sonam Kapoor. The plot wasn't meticulously characterized and blindly followed the fairy tale pattern of Disney Films.

Wrapped in bright plastic and frequently too sweet for your own good, they act as sunny, unsurprising treats that lead to sticky, syrupy smiles. Disney Pictures is founded on these spoonfuls-of-sugar, on these simplistic stories of larks and laughter (and Happily Ever After).

Dr. Mrinalini Chakravarty aka Mili (Sonam) is a physiotherapist, hired to help Rajasthan royal Shekhar Rathore (Aamir Raza). Rani Nirmala (Ratna) and Yuvraj Vikram (Fawad) expect a quiet medic who will blend blandly into royal discipline - but they get a live-wire who teases the dishy Yuvraj, 'Raja log praja ke saath party nahin karte?', whose therapy includes drinking wine with her charge, who crushes paapads noisily onto regal china, and who, in striped PJs and cartoon-coloured T-shirts, is no fashionista.

Who doesn't know that remakes of movie classics can be seriously risky business? Many in the Mumbai movie industry have in recent times made a complete hash of a rehash and burnt their fingers real bad. But not so the makers of Khoobsurat. Shashanka Ghosh's lively update of the unforgettable 1980 Hrishikesh Mukherjee comedy makes more than a fair fist of an obviously onerous task.
