One line Review: Exceptional performances by the leads, realistic setting, strong plot and implementation of the script. Positive Points: The dexterous depiction of the brutal realities of the societal norms and orthodox mind sets of people. The dark plot keeps you hooked throughout the movie. Stupendous performance by Anushka Sharma. The exemplary representation of an unsafe setting of Gurgaon, where the girl takes all the stakes on herself when faced by the brutality of the world. Negative Points: Some unconvincing sequences in the first as well as second half of the movie that takes you away from the plot though for a brief time. Plot: Meera (Anushka Sharma) is a contemporary woman happily married to her loving husband Arjun (Neil Bhoopalam). They are a perfect modern couple with high class living and corporate jobs along with a well settled back set. In the course of their routine life Meera witnesses a glimpse of the unsafe environment of Gurgaon when she gets attacked with the intension of molestation. The pathetic explanation by the cop stating ''Gurgaon Badta Bacha Hai" with the advice of having a licensed gun and Meera's response to it "Ab Gurgaon Badta Bacha hai to Gun to Muje Hi Rakhni Hogi Na' hits you hard. While Meera goes into the trauma of the unsafe environment her husband Arjun plans a weekend vacation for her birthday to cheer her up. The plot takes a 360 degree turn when the couple starts their road trip. The innocent journey turns into a nightmare when they are struck by unusual circumstances. The couple goes through a hell ride and the night turns out to be the longest night of their life. The representation of a village with backward thinking, prevalence of the cruelty in mankind to the extent that it is okay for Satbir (Darshan Kumaar) to take his sister's life with no hesitation or guilt is awfully shocking. Honor Killing still exists and is socially accepted, it is sad that nothing can be done regarding the same. What the dreadful road trip has it for Meera and Arjun is a further watch in the film. Direction and other Technical Aspects: Utterly classic and praiseworthy direction by Navdeep Singh. The script does not have any loop holes as such. Cinematography is nicely done with crisp editing. The hard hitting dialogues in the film enhance the level of the plot. One statement particularly is the mirror to our society where a ridiculous cop says "Jaahan Bijli nahi Pohochti vaha Constitution kaise pohochega". The real picture of the small town mentality is captured beautifully in the film. Performances: One can witness the best of Anushka Sharma in this movie. She is the hero of the film in true sense. With the intensity and valour Anushka plays her character Meera is a worth watch. There is a scene is the film at a critical point where she takes pleasure while watching satbir trembling in pain and fear by lighting a cigarette is a striking one. Neil Bhoopalam also does fair justice to his role. Darshan Kumaar is perfect as Satbir. There are moments in the film when you are in shock with the obnoxious nature of the baddie. Darshan perfectly carries the atrocious and cruel personality of satbir. Music: The dark tale does not have many songs which indeed is in the support of the film considering its thriller genre. Final Verdict: The plot and the setting of the film makes you aware about the brutal realities of our society and its extremely saddening when you realise that such insensitive norms and savage life style is socially accepted. Midst the disturbing ideologies and presentation, the film shakes you up and screams that we should be well versed with the facts of life.
