RADHE narrates the story of an honest cop - Radhe [Salman Khan] - who wants to rid the city of drug menace. The drug lord - Rana [Randeep Hooda] - is ruthless and eliminates anyone and everyone who crosses his path. Radhe and Rana come face to face at regular intervals. Will Radhe put an end to Rana's nefarious activities?
A Salman Khan movie is usually like a running tap that cannot be turned off. It stops only when the water tank has been emptied of its content. Radhe, directed by Prabhudeva, is another unapologetic addition to that tradition. The film dumps a whole lot of dross on us, albeit with a certain degree of surface gloss.
Rana (Randeep Hooda), as the bada*s drug-lord of Mumbai, is trying to expand his network by reaching out to the city's hotspots. In a meeting, cops discuss how they'll need someone to stop this, enters the suspended cop Radhe (Salman Khan). They revoke his suspension to clean the city, and for some reason, I wished the scene would've created more impact with "gaadi wala aaya ghar se kachra nikal" playing in the background.
'Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai', pitched as an action film directed by Prabhu Deva (last Dabangg 3 with Salman khan in 2019) is based on 'The Outlaws', a 2017 South Korean action crime film directed by Kang Yoon-sung (starring Ma Dong-seok & Yoon Kye-sang). 'Radhe' is produced by Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Atul Agnihotri and Zee Studios. The film stars Salman Khan, Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles.
Such is the popularity of Salman Khan that Zee's online platform crashed several times during the transmission of Radhe as too many people were watching it when it was released today online. It's the perfect Eid gift for fans hungry for high octane entertainment during the lockdown. Radhe was supposed to have a huge nation-wide release and bring succour to the theatre owners but it wasn't to be as the second wave of COVID-19 played spoilsport.
"Cute boy," Disha Patani exclaims. I thought she was referring to Mitansh Lulla, the young teenager who plays a student fighting the drug mafia in Mumbai. But no. Patani who play a really dumb character named Diya (so named to facilitate Salman's joke about 'Nadiya') is referring to our super-hero crimebuster Radhe who has fooled Diya into believing that he is a struggling model whom she takes a shine to.
It's somewhat heartening, have to admit, that while the world, in particular India, is in a constant state of upheaval, rendering it hard to even recognise it anymore - some things remain just the same. Such as: A Salman Khan film -so self-aware in its intentions, and tropes.
What is a superhero stripped off his powers? Without a big screen and a hall teeming with hysterical fans amplifying Bhai's every single antic to deafening decibel and applause, Salman Khan's impact is reduced to an ineffective action figure playing out of a handheld device or one half of the wall.
It takes some doing to make a film, that leaves one wondering, if it would really have been that bad if the pandemic took you out last week. With Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, Salman Khan brings yet another deadly wave of cringeworthy one-liners, cheap CGI action, and a senseless story that are a torture to sit through.
One Word Review... Radhe: DISAPPOINTING. Doesn't meet the sky-high expectations... Clichd plot and predictable formula remodelled with new packaging... #SalmanKhan very good, but lacklustre screenwriting is a roadblock... Strictly for #Salman fans. #RadheReview
Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai is a sequel to the 2009 blockbuster Wanted. In the climax of Wanted, Radhe is pummeling Ghani Bhai, a dreaded don played with mischievous sadism by Prakash Raj. When blood starts gushing out of Ghani bhai's mouth, he says to Radhe: ruk na yaar ruk na. Bahut dard ho raha hai. As I watched Radhe, I wanted to say the same thing to director Prabhudeva because my brain was in an advanced stage of melt down. After their last collaboration Dabangg 3, Prabhudeva delivers yet another loud, numbing, pointless paean to the cult of Salman Khan. Radhe is so free of coherence and craft that it hurts.
Mumbai is suffering from the wrath of a drug kingpin, and the police force is falling short of handling the situation. Radhe, a specialist cop, is appointed to bring this situation under control for peace in the city. Being the last hope, will Radhe be able to get everything under control?
Salman Khan in and as Radhe is definitely 'your most wanted bhai' this Eid! Just as we are braving the deadly novel coronavirus at present, there's another high-risk addiction that continues to affect several lives - drug abuse. Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai opens on the plot of drug abuse in Mumbai and how the youth is crippled with it. Salman aka Radhe is the tough guy whose suspension is revoked and called in to lead the mission of cleaning the city.
Salman Khan's latest movie Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai is yet another remake, this time of the South Korean hit The Outlaws. Any resemblance between the original, a grimly comic and fleet actioner, and its Hindi version is largely coincidental.
Salman Khan lives in his own universe, quite literally. With Radhe: The Most Wanted Bhai, he brings back the memories of 2009 hit Wanted that, in a way, started his second innings to superstardom. With Prabhudeva back behind the megaphone, Khan has the license to go back to chequered shirts and his famous bracelet. Needless to say that at least 500 people must have been harmed in the process. Of course, we are not counting the sensitive audience and non-Salman Khan fans.
Set entirely in Mumbai, 'Radhe Your Most Wanted Bhai' is a Salman Khan actioner that doesn't try to be anything else, ever. Radhe is an encounter specialist with 97 encounters and 23 transfers to his credit, in the last 10 years. Now, as the city is in the grip of a dreaded drug mafia, it's time for Radhe to make a comeback and kick some butt. But between beating up the bad guys and saving lives, Radhe also finds time to flirt with his boss' sister Diya (Disha Patani).
