Will you be surprised if I tell you that Teraa Surroor - which, incidentally, is not a sequel to 2007 film Aap Kaa Surroor - is Himesh Reshammiya's ninth film as an actor? If yes, then you are doing a great disservice to yourself. There's no harm in a little fun every now and then. If no, then you deserve every single second of this mysterious, melodious, super cheesy, unintentionally funny, half baked, impractical and futile film.

Raghu (Himesh Reshammiya) does the right things, the wrong way. He worships Tara (Farah Karimaee) and she loves him too. However Raghu's philandering move drives her away to Ireland, where she is caught for drug peddling. Raghu believes she is innocent. Turns out, she has been framed by a mysterious man called Anirudh Brahmin. Can he rescue his girl from Dublin and nab the real culprit?

You've got to hand it to Himesh Reshammiya: he is a tough nut to convince to not try his hand at acting. His self-belief is at an all-time high and whatever the naysayers might have to say, he goes about doing what he wants to do. TERAA SUROOR is his fourth attempt to entertain the masses after AAP KAA SUROOR, KARZZ and The XPOSE. Although he had worked on a few emotions in his second film, he goes back to his 'deadpan look', sideways glance and stiff eyes with no show of emotions, as he did in his first film.

Way back in 1993, Mahesh Bhatt had helmed a film named Gumrah, which revolved around the protagonist's efforts to break out his ladylove from prison after she is arrested in a foreign land on charges of drug trafficking. The makers of Himesh Reshammiya's latest release Teraa Surroor have just added some more masala to this plot to come up with a boring fare, which is further marred by unimpressive performances and a weak screenplay.

Love him or hate him but you cannot ignore him. Himesh Reshammiya has a way to win over his audience despite the acting part never been taken seriously. But that changed till the release of The Xpose (2014). The movie got audiences taking note of his acting capabilities, not to forget the massive fan following he already enjoys as a singer.

Himesh Reshammiya is a gutsy man. It takes courage to do what he has been doing since 2007, exposing himself to public ridicule by starring in film after film, only to be minced to bits by critics while even his fans gradually wander away. His 'acting' debut in Aap Kaa Surroor - The Moviee - The Real Luv Story turned out to be a box-office hit on the strength of those very fans, people who have enjoyed his work as a music composer over the years, and were keen to see him before the camera in a full-fledged film role.

Raghu (Himesh Reshammiya) is leading a dual life. He is a gangster but his fiance Tara (Farah Karimi) has no clue about it. Farah is a singer with a band. The duo stay with her mom (Shernaaz Patel). After confessing that he cheated on Tara, the duo break-up and this paves way for a major downhill in their lives. Under the pretense of a performance, Farah is invited to Ireland by Anirudh Brahmin, a guy she meets on Facebook. Farah takes up the assignment and is soon falsely claimed for drug peddling.

Can anyone go through an entire film with a fixed expression? Himesh Reshammiya does a hence proven in 'Teraa Surroor' in which he is busily engaged on a twin project: trying to prise his lady love from a Dublin prison, and to uncover a mystery man who has evil designs on him and her. The proceedings take an hour and half and give us a guy called Raghu , played by a very buff Reshammiya, mop-with-a-side-part, black singlet and black leather jacket and dark glasses, hefting a gun sideways, and shooting many bullets into many bodies.

Just one scene should suffice to sum up exactly how daft Teraa Surroor is. In what looks like a gaming zone for dummies, an Irish bigmouth ridicules Indians. People from that "god-forsaken country" can't shoot straight, he says. The hero, standing within earshot, is needled no end. He walks up to the smirking Irishman, whips out his desi tamancha and proceeds to show him what a smoking hot sharpshooter an Indian can be.

Back in 2007, Himesh Reshammiya made Aap Ka Suroor which was a musical blockbuster that also gave Hansika Motwani her first big break. Aap Ka Suroor was entertaining because Himesh didn't take himself seriously and we got to enjoy some foot tapping tunes. Nine years later, the singer turned actor is back with Tera Suroor which is loosely based in concept on its predecessor but has better production values, lavish locales and a new girl (Farah Karimaee) opposite Himesh.

Himesh Reshammiya's largely self-funded experiments in front of the screen have seen him live out his fantasies. In Teraa Surroor, Reshammiya, unlike his sardonic 1960s actor of The Xpose, is a sulking gangster. Simply put he is no fun. He is in the picturesque Dublin but all he does is lean against whatever he can find and peers into oblivion or walk among crowds and look like he could do with a hug.

In Bollywood, even though there are stars and superstars, not many can boast of being an 'all-rounder'. Himesh Reshammiya is one of the few who fall under the category of an 'all-rounder'. Be it music composing, producing TV serials, judging music shows, acting in films and even producing them, Himesh Reshammiya has 'been there done that'. He may have his share of admirers and adversaries within and outside the industry, but let's face it, the man continues to score big as a musician and his movies have always been talked-about, evaluated and scrutinised feverishly (good, bad, whatever!) which, indirectly, hints at his popularity.
