Critic Reviews
CHITTAGONG is a Hindi feature film which released today i.e. on 12th October, 2012. It has been produced by Anurag Kashyap and Bedabrata Pain under the banner of Bohra Bros Pvt Ltd. It has also been directed by Bedabrata Pain. Its genre is patriotic and is a true story! Read the review ahead. Story : It is the true story of India when it was under British Rule in 1930. It is also the true story of Jhunku who was a 14 year old boy. For the first time in Indian history, the British army is defeated by a ragtag army of schoolboys and their teacher, Masterda. Actually in those days under the leadership of Surya Sen (Masterda) was formed the secret Republican Army, with which they fought with the British. Sen had set up camps for revolutionary youths so that they could be trained the guerilla tactics which could be applied against the British. Such members (of revolutionary groups) believed that in this way they could liberate from the oppressive and exploitative British colonial rule. How they fight with the British and what is the role of Jhumku and many more happenings are portrayed in this film. Performance : Manoj Bajpayee has performed very well. He looks like real martyr. So is the case with Nawazuddin Siddique. He too has performed extremely well and appears like true martyr. Some other actors such as Barry John, Jaideep Ahlawat and Dibyendu Bhattacharya have also performed very well and they slip easily into the characters of the young rebels. Performance of young Vega Tamotia is highly impressive. He successfully shows great spark as Pritilata Waddedar. Script : It is a well researched script written in a well manner. Sometimes it makes you feel emotionally overwrought! Music : The music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is up to the mark and touching. Other Technical Aspects : Camerawork by Eric Zimmerman is very good. Sound design by Resul Pookutty is up to the mark. Editing by Aldo Velasco is also good. Direction : It has been directed by Bedabrata Pain who has narrated the film very well. His shots and takings are good as well as characters are defined. The director has made Delzad Hiwale to play the powerful role of Jhunku who is the leading character of this film. The director has portrayed him as the gangly and initially-fragile youth who later on turns to one of the lynchpins of the revolution of Sen. You get to see the film through his young and confused eyes. It thus aids the narration of the film to considerable extent. The director has crafted this film in a well manner which is worth watching. Plus Points : Message of the Film; Direction; Performances Minus Points : KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY starring Abhishek Bachchan has already been made and released so it may get less benefit. Conclusion : It is not a film full of entertainment. But it conveys some important messages and portrays you what was the condition of our country in those days. How martyrs and some unsung heroes reacted and acted in those days. It tells about their contribution to our country. So it should be watched for its message. Verdict : If you have not watched the movie KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY starring Abhishek Bachchan you must watch it for its message and a few unsung heroes of our country! But if you have watched KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY starring Abhishek Bachchan you already know about it so you may skip it!
