Ranveer Singh signed to play Kapil Dev in a film based on India’s 1983 World Cup Victory!
The makers confirm Ranveer Singh for the role of Kapil Dev in a forthcoming film based on India’s World Cup victory of 1983.
Contrary to reports that Arjun Kapoor was roped in to play the iconic cricketer Kapil Dev in an upcoming film chronicling India’s World Cup victory of 1983, it is, in fact, his Gunday co-star Ranveer Singh who has finally bagged the coveted role. The film will be directed by noted filmmaker Kabir Khan who is known for making action-oriented films.
Tentatively titled World Cup 1983, the film will be bankrolled by Vishnu Induri, founder of Celebrity Cricket League and the South Indian International Movie Awards, in association with Phantom Films and Reliance Entertainment. Confirming Ranveer Singh’s entry in the film, Induri said, “Yes, I have been trying to make this film since the last three-and-a-half years and I have now got a combination of Ranveer Singh and Kabir Khan. Ranveer Singh is playing Kapil Dev’s role and it’s a bigger movie now.”
While Ranveer Singh, who will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali upcoming period-drama Padmavati, is onboard for sure, it will be interesting to see who all Kabir Khan casts for other important characters in the movie.
It is being reported that an official announcement regarding the film and other important details will be made on 27th September.
The film will be simultaneously made in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
