Rani Padmini (Deepika Padukone), the newlywed wife of powerful Rajput King, Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor), is immensely beautiful and, also, an equally brilliant warrior. They happily live in their vast kingdom. However, their happiness turns out to be very short-lived as the new Sultan of Delhi Sultanate, Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) lustfully wants to make Rani Padmini his queen. This shameful act of Khilji offends Maharawal Ratan Singh to no end. One thing leads to another and creates a war between the two rulers. Though the war has a brutal ending, what step Rani Padmini takes after it concludes, claiming lives of many innocent people, is the nail-biting experience which has been giving goosebumps to generations for the time immemorial.
