

Sachin Kundalkar
The Story
Sachin Kundalkar is a noted Marathi Film Director and screenplay writer ventured into Hindi Cinema with the movie 'Aiyyaa'. He is the recipient of two National Awards.
Kundalkar dreamt of making it big into the film industry since his school days. He had approached Ashutosh Gowariker for assistance but the director asked him to wait until he finishes his education. While still in college he assisted in Marathi movie Doghi (1995), which received a National Award for Best film on Other Social Issues. He assisted in quite a few Marathi movies thereafter. After being a commerce graduate, he joined the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He also attended La Femis, Paris on a scholarship and made a short film, 'One Caf Please'. He directed many short films and then entered the mainstream cinema. His short film 'The Bath' won 2nd prize in the short fiction category by the Indian Documentary Producers' Association (IDPA) and was also screened at the 30th San Francisco International LGBT film festival. He also directed a couple of Marathi plays. Sachin published his first novel 'Cobalt Blue' at the age of 22.
Kundalkar's first feature film was 'Restaurant' starring Sonali Kulkarni. The film was screened at many international film festivals. His second film 'Nirop' won the National Award for being, an original offbeat film that gives a fresh perspective of the internal landscapes of the human mind. He also wrote the script of the film. His next film was 'Gandha'(2009). The film received a National Award for the Best Screenplay. It became the first Marathi movie ever to win in such a category.
Kundalkar debuted in Bollywood with 'Rani Mukherjee' starer 'Aiyyaa' in 2012. The film however, could not fare well at the Box Office.
