It's a universal fact that with money... comes greed and with greed... comes selfishness. It's only a handful of people who can resist money and the temptations that come alongwith it, whereas others tend to 'walk that extra mile' to get (read 'grab') the money by hook or by crook, caring a damn for emotions and feelings, even if it means walking all over their own siblings or family members. With this week's release CRAZY KUKKAD FAMILY, the debutant director Ritesh Menon has tried to tell a similar kind of tale. How much does he succeed in the same? Let's analyse.

About the only saving grace of Crazy Cukkad Family is its brevity. There is little else in the film that can justify its cocksure airs. With a runtime of an hour and a quarter, it is relatively short all right. It isn't, however, half as sweet as it pretends to be. That, in a nutshell, is the story of Crazy Cukkad Family , an unfunny film that is all over the place as it chases a non-existent rooster.

'Crazy Cukkad Family' promises a lot of fun cock-a-doodle-do, but delivers much too much cockamamie, instead. It could very well have been a laugh-a-minute, given the theme. Old Mr Beri is in hospital, counting down the moments. In troop his children, grown up only in name. It's not concern for a parent that drives his three sons, and a daughter (Kirkire, Punjabi, Sharma and Shukla respectively): all they are interested in is in their father's will, and the goodies that lie therein.

Pawan (Swananad Kirkire), Archana (Shilpa Shukla), Aman (Kushal Punjabi) and Abhay (Siddharth Sharma) are the bickering siblings who suffer from family-phobia. They can't stand each other, their respective spouses or parents, but their common need (money) draws them together. News of their father breathing his last makes them rush back to their family home 'Beri villa' as each expects a share of his property. However, things go topsy-turvy when their lawyer informs them of their father's last wish. Can this 'task' bring the madcap family together?

Mr Beri has a big family and a big farmhouse. His family consists of an ideal wife and good for nothing children. The eldest son, Pawan (Swanand Kirkire), is in a fix because of fraud scehmes that he runs and is in a desperate need of money to get a criminal-cum-politician off his back. Daughter Archana (Shilpa Shukla), has missed the bus of Miss India and now wants to win the Mrs India crown, at any cost. She has a middle-class, hen-pecked husband who time to time slips into drag. Third son Aman (Kushal Punjabi) is an unsuccessful wannabe photographer who lives in New York. The youngest, Abhay (Siddharth Sharma) lives in New Zealand.
