OMG OH MY GOD! is a Hindi feature film which released today (i.e. on 28th September, 2012). It has been produced by Akshay Kumar, Ashvini Yardi and Paresh Rawal under the banner of Grazing Goat Productions, Spice and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. It has been directed by Umesh Shukla. Is it a Divine Comedy and worth watching? Read the review below. Story : It is completely the story of Kanji Bhai (Paresh Rawal). The film completely revolves around him. He is an atheist yet he sells idols and other materials related with Gods (contradictory!). Not only he sells the idols like ordinary shopkeepers, but he also fools his customers by selling them ordinary idols in the name of antique pieces. He lives happily in his home with his wife and two children (a son and a daughter). One day he comes to know that his son had gone to participate in Govinda (Matki Phod Occasion). He doesn't want his son to attend that ceremony so he reaches at the spot and makes false announcement that Lord Krishna was sipping milk and consuming makkhan and he would continue doing so only for an hour. Hearing this, people gathered there scatter and run to offer milk and makkhan to their Lord. Due to this, matki phod event remains incomplete and matki is not broken. Kanji is a happy man because he could find his son there and takes him away. But politician Murli Sharma and some saints/priests remain present there such as Siddheshwar Maharaj (Govind Namdeo) and others. What Kanji had done had made Siddheshwar Maharaj furious and he curses him that God will teach him a lesson for the mockery he had done. Just than a mild earthquake is experienced! But Kanji doesn't pay any heed to his words and again mocks at him and his God and leaves with his child. But soon he comes to know that his shop had collapsed and huge loss had occurred. It surprised everyone that in a minor earthquake how could only his shop be demolished and all other shops, even the shabby shops, remained safe, without any harm? Kanji's wife believes that God had punished him but he doesn't believe all these and mocks at God. However, what is of Kanji's concern that he suffers a huge loss due to the earthquake and to establish his shop he had taken loan as well as mortgaged his house. He doesn't know what to do and how to recover the loss. Finally he gets an idea to recover money from the insurance company. But when he meets the insurance officer, he is denied the claim. The officer tells him that since the destruction was caused due to the 'Act of God' his company would not compensate for it (as it was mentioned in the agreement paper). Kanji gets furious at him and now he decides to sue his God and ask compensation from Him. Would he be able to bring God in the court? Would he succeed in getting compensation from the God? How would he do it? These are some queries which are answered in the remaining part of the film. Performance : Paresh Rawal has done brilliant job. This film can be said to be his one of the best films of this decade. He is the soul of the film and he also steals the show! Akshay Kumar has got very less footage, yet he has acted well. However, his costumes do not match his personality (as God). His chase scene is quite interesting and in that scene he has done his best. Prabhu Deva and Sonakshi Sinha just appear in a song 'Go Govinda' like any item song and disappear. However, they have performed very well. Mithun Chakraborty had performed his part very well. He doesn't behave like a normal person. Govind Namdeo is quite good as Siddheshwar Maharaj. Murli Sharma is also good. Poonam Jhanwar has very less to do and she doesn't leave any impact. Mahesh Manjerakar in the role of counselor (and lawyer) from Saint's side has done his part in a well manner. He has justified his role. Script : The plot is interesting but when it is divided into screenplay and other scenes, it gets stretched and leaves the main track. Some scenes and arguments in the court are written very well and are funny too but at the same time there are some points which are not convincing and seem exaggerated and go against the film. Music : The music has been given by different music directors such as Himesh Reshammiyan, Anjjan-Meet Bros, Sachin and Jigar. The song 'Go Govinda' is pleasant and chartbuster. 'Mere Nishaan' is also good. There aren't many songs in this film like general films. Background music by Amar Mohle is good. Choreography : The choreography of 'Go Govinda' is brilliant. The steps of Prabhu Deva and Sonakshi Sinha are very good. Choreography was not needed in any other song. Other Technical Aspects : Editing is good. Cinematography by Sethu Sriram is also up to the mark. Costume department doesn't leave any impact. This department could have done better (while making costumes for God) but it is also director's fault. Direction : It has been directed by Umesh Shukla, who is also the screenplay writer of this film. The direction is average. Taking wise director has done well in court room. But if you look at other aspects, he has confused the audience. The character of Kanji is vague! On one hand he doesn't believe in God and on the other hand he sells Gods' idols; this is contradictory! The director has shown just one side of priests (who just pretend to be priests), but all priests are no like that. The director could not present Akshay Kumar in proper manner. Most of the times it appears unconvincing! Plus Points : Performance of Paresh Rawal; Different Subject; 'Go Govinda' Song, Some Humorous Scenes Minus Points : Many points against God appears to be forced; it gets diverted from the main issue Overall Review : The story is unconvincing yet interesting! Its execution to some extent is good but after a time it becomes dragging and diverts from the main issue. The logics used in court room to defeat the priests are interesting but when it is exaggerated it becomes negative. Kanji comments that people should not put red tilak on Hanumaan ji and should not pour milk on Shiv Ling goes against the film and is not liked by the audience. Why Kanji gets paralyzed when he was winning is out of question! For one month he remains in coma and paralyzed, and what incidents take place outside is unconvincing. Why did he take the name of Siddheshwar Maharaj to convince people that Lord Krishna was consuming makkhan, is unanswerable? He may be an atheist but not an immature person! Anyway, the film has uniqueness and some humor so most of its parts are liked by the audience. Verdict : It's a different film and once watchable.
