Critic Reviews
Rajneeti is a multi-starrer film produced by Prakash Jha & Ronnie Screwala and under the banner of Prakash Jha Productions, Walkwater Media and UTV Motion Pictures. The casts of this film are Nana Patekar, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgan, Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Bajpai, Arjun Rampal, shruti Seth, Darshan Jariwala, Daya Shanker Pandey, Shereveer Vakil, Kiran Karmarkar etc. This film is also directed by the filmmaker Prakash Jha who has directed many films like Apharan, Gangajal, Mritudand etc in the past. The film Rajneeti is inspired by the great epic Mahabharat and modern day politics. What is politics in the modern days is shown by the director Prakash Jha. The story of the film goes like this: Bhaskar Sanyal [played by Naseruddin Shah] is a courageous leftist leader and is capable in handling the most influential leaders, but due to an unpleasant incident, he goes into unconsciousness. Prithvi [played by Arjun Rampal] is the successor to an influential political heritage. He wants himself to acquire the peak position. But Veerendra [Manoj Bajpayee], who is his cousin, is one of the biggest obstacles in his way to the political chair because he establishes himself as his biggest political adversary. Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar , Ranbir Kapoor , Katrina Kaif too get into the war of politics and family. Katrina Kaif loves Ranbir Kapoor but gets married to his elder brother Arjun Rampal. Why this happened and who wins the battle of politics is the rest of the story. The actors have performed well. Day by day Ranbir Kapoor is progressing in his performance. He had done very well in Rocket Singh and Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani and now in this film too he is brilliant. Nana Patekar is as good as ever. He gets into his character so well that no one can say that he is acting. Naseeruddin Shah too is very good in his role. Katrina Kaif has acted very well and in a matured way. Arjun Rampal too has performed very well. Manoj Bajpai is excellent. The dialogues are good and impressive and also the screenplay. Cinematography by Sachin Kumar Krishnan is excellent. Editing too is good and crisp. However the music is not up to the mark so the songs are hardly going to last for a long time. The film is made sensibly but too many things are mixed at a time. It started well but as the director moved towards end he kept losing control over the story. Hence the film has become complicated. This film is not meant for children. Though it is a sensible film, it lacks entertainment so a large number of audience is hardly going to watch it in theaters. This was a much awaited film of Prakash Jha but the result is not so exciting. However it is not even bad. It is worth watching for sensible persons.
