After Rajasthan, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, now Haryana bans Padmaavat!
The film has been mired in controversies ever since it mounted floors in Rajasthan last year.
It is not going to be an easy sailing for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat because after being banned in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, now the BJP government in Haryana has also decided to ban the film in the state. Starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in prominent roles, the movie has been facing fire right after its shooting commenced in Rajasthan last year where its sets were vandalized by the members of a fringe group called Karni Sena.
Anil Vij, Haryana Health Minister, tweeted on Tuesday about the ban being imposed on the film in the state. He wrote, "Film Padmavati/Padmavat banned in Haryana." The decision was taken at a Haryana cabinet meeting.
With major territories banning the film, it remains to be seen how it manages to recover its huge production cost from its theatrical release. Reportedly, the film is made on a massive budget of Rs. 180 crores.
Produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd, Padmaavat is set to release on 25th January.
