Vidyut Jammwal reprises his role here as Captain Karanvir Singh Dogra from the first Commando (2013). While the earlier was a high action romance carrying shades of Rambo, the present film is more on the lines of the Raid Redemption films, what with the hero entering the hide out of the bad guys on several occasions and single-handedly taking out all the goons. From a commando unit, our hero is transferred to a super secret command dedicated to carrying out black ops both in India and abroad and flush out the black money launderers.

Half measures are a strict no-no in the universe of Commando Karanvir Singh (Vidyut Jammwal). No barriers, no walls, no dangers, no inducements and no traps can stop him. He is a superhero-crusader without the Superman costume. His guiding principle is: Jab tak jaan hai koshish karte rehna hai. He tries too hard. It weighs down the film. The former paratrooper may no longer be a one-man army, but Commando 2 is twice as giddy as its 2013 precursor that had the beefy protagonist come out with all guns blazing as he protected a damsel in distress from a small-town thug.

In this ghastly attempt at an action thriller, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetization drive prompts the creation of a secret task force to recall a black money kingpin from South East Asia. What emerges are a bunch of lousy actors with fully availed gym subscriptions. Commando 2's 'issued in public interest' brand of support for the Modi government's various schemes -- Jan Dhan to Swachh Bharat -- is so contrived that random ads popping nonstop in the middle of YouTube videos may seem less annoying.

COMMANDO 2 is about the bringing back of a commando to investigate black money trail and the twists and turns that follows his 'comeback'. The film starts off with the prevailing topic of demonetization which is followed by the 'action-packed' introduction of Karanvir Singh Dogra aka Karan (Vidyut Jamwal). On the other hand, the Indian government readies a team in order to nab a certain 'Vicky Chaddha', the most wanted criminal who is on the verge of siphoning a huge chunk of black money that actually belongs to the poor and destitute people of India.

It might be natural to assume that the tale of a government-appointed, trigger-happy action junkie on the trail of a murderous, black-money-laundering villain would be a fun ride, especially with His Royal Hotness, His Muscular Majesty Vidyut Jammwal in the driver's seat. Jammwal (yes, now with a double "M") is as good-looking as a man can be. If you watched him on debut playing John Abraham's bete noir in Force (2011), you probably know that already. As Captain Karanvir Singh Dogra in Commando 2: The Black Money Trail, the character he earlier played in the 2013 film Commando: A One Man Army, he does everything to please a lustful viewer.

Debutante Director Deven Bhojani made Commando 2 to highlight the nation's most talked about issue, Demonetisation, but the film has its own share of flaws. In a violence-fuelled film, Vidyut Jammwal has effortlessly managed to pull off action sequences. He flawlessly slips into the shoes of his character, Karan- a fearless commando of a special cell.

Commando 2 traces a black money trail as Karan (Vidyut Jammwal) a commando, cops Bakhtawar (Freddy Daruwala) and Bhawna Reddy (Adah Sharma) are assigned to arrest Vicky Chadha (Thakur Anoop Singh) and international money launderer in Thailand. While Karan and Bakhtawar don't see eye to eye, Bhawna's too stupid to lead a mission. A major twist in tale comes when Vicky's wife Maria (Esha Gupta) claims that she and Vicky are innocent.

When the makers of 2013 film Commando decided to return with a sequel, it seemed like a good idea simply because the audience hadn't forgotten the sheer intensity of the action scenes. In addition to this, Vidyut Jammwal was coming back as Commando Karanveer Singh Dogra. He had impressed with his Kalaripayattu-inspired combat skills in the original. So, it was quite natural to expect more from him.

India is reeling under the assault of those black-hearted criminals who amass black money overseas. How to get it back, so that all those lakhs of crores can be utilised for the good of the country? Why, get Commando Karan back in action. And cue the scriptwriters to do their national duty, and sling in catch-phrases like 'demonitisation', and, yes, 'Swacchh Bharat'. The sequel of Commando, called Commando 2: The Black Money Trail, gives Vidyut Jammwal large tracts of the film to flex his awe-inspiring biceps, and other equally spectacular muscles, in the service of his 'desh'.

Commando 2: The Black Money Trail follows Captain Karanvir Singh's life post his army stint. The film begins With a montage of the PMO's demonetisation drive and the impact it has had. In the very next scene we have Vidyut demolishing a building full of armed men with his bare (read: brawny) hands. The expedition leads him to an important clue which helps his team further their mission. However, this time around, the stakes are higher. The film's villain, a certain Vicky Chhadha, who also happens to be the master of disguises, is controlling the vile black money from plush foreign shores.

The Home Minister of India (Shefali Shah) assigns a four member special unit, comprising a dedicated police officer (Freddy Daruwala), ex-commando turned encounter specialist (Vidyut Jammwal), corrupt cop obsessed with brands (Adah Sharma) and a hacker to undertake a covert operation. The team must travel to Malaysia to bring in Vicky Chadda, a notorious black money launderer. Soon this challenging mission turns into a dangerous game of deceit.

In Commando, Vidyut Jammwal literally had a 'phata poster nikla hero' moment - he tears through a poster of Force (which, incidentally, is his debut film). His Captain Karan Vir Dogra somersaulted and scissor-kicked his way, beat up an army of men single-handedly, rescued a girl and brought a local goon to justice. Commando 2 marks the return of the death-defying stunts (all done by Vidyut, without any stunt doubles or harnesses) and plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat.
