Plot

The scene opens up with Chicago city in the year 1990. Iqbal Arun Khan (Jackie Shroff) with his little boy Sahir (Aamir Khan as a child), runs a grand circus called The Great Indian Circus, which is mortgaged at the Western Bank of Chicago. Iqbal attempts hard to save the circus from closing permanently by arranging a special show for the bankers to woo them with the magic tricks. But, the bankers did not get happy with the show and the bank's rule continues. Then, Iqbal Khan finishes his life with a bullet in front of the bankers and his kid Sahir. This incident leaves deep mental scarves on Sahir's mind that compels him to take revenge of his father's shocking death. As a grown up, Sahir pulls up socks as a swift thief and plans to finish the bank by completely destroying it. Armed up with all the high-tech gadgets and efficient plan, Sahir robs the huge cash from the bank. Sahir re-opens the circus with this cash and a vivacious girl called Aaliya (Katrina Kaif) joins him. By the fear of closing down, the bank officials decide to catch the thief and save the bank. For this mission, the Indian ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Inspector Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra) are selected. Their ultimate aim is to catch the crook red-handed, which is not at all easy as this thief does not leave any proof after the robbery and hence, he is totally unknown.

Sahir gets to know about these cops on television and he visits ACP Jai in this matter. Sahir deludes Jai by imparting some wrong information about this unknown thief and asks Jai to meet in the bank for more valuable details. They meet in the bank and Sahir captures the bank system details in his hidden camera. Again, the bank is robbed and the criminal escapes like every time. Through some points, ACP Jai comes to know that the criminal is none other than Sahir himself and without wasting any time, ACP Jai and Inspector Ali arrive in Sahir's circus to arrest him. The further tale has something really special that will surely raise one's eyebrows!

One Line Review: The sweat 'n' leather speedy masterstroke chock-a-block with the fast and furious action stunts that makes the rules and breaks the rules. Positive Points: Eclectic performance by Aamir Khan, Stunning Katrina Kaif presenting herself in a brand new avatar, Excellent direction, Matchless cinematography, Brilliant background score, Unparalleled audio score and not to forget the vrrom vrrom action stunts! Negative Points: Dearth of realism at certain junctures. Plot: The curtain lifts up in the beautiful Chicago in the year 1990 with the magician Iqbal Arun Khan (Jackie Shroff) and his sweet little boy Sahir (childhood Aamir Khan), who knows in and out of the magic tricks done by his father. Iqbal Khan is the owner of Chicago-based The Great Indian Circus, which is mortgaged at the Western Bank of Chicago. As a last chance to save the circus, Iqbal along with his kid Sahir, tries to impress the bankers by arranging a special circus show for them, but loses the bait and sees the end of his circus coming nearer. Unable to cope up with the situation, Iqbal kills himself by firing a bullet in front of the bankers and Sahir, which drastically affects the delicate mind of Sahir. Here starts the real tale with the grown up Sahir all geared up to take the revenge of his father's death. Post his father's sad demise, Sahir becomes the proprietor of the circus and runs it successfully just like his father. Sahir is in search of a girl, who can accompany him in doing circus stunts and he desires someone energetic and determined. His search ends with Aaliya (Katrina Kaif), who keeps Sahir speechless during her auditions for being a part of the circus. No need to say, Aaliya soon begins to add a dash of spice in Sahir's circus shows. With the mind full on breeding with revenge, Sahir takes oath to destroy the Western Bank of Chicago. For this reason, he happens to combine brains with brawn and makes a full proof plan with all the high-tech gadgets to rob the bank and steal all the cash. He successfully robs the bank twice and zooms away from the long arm of the law. The bank officials come up with the plan to do something effective to prevent the bank from undergoing a huge loss. At this point, two Indian cops, ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Inspector Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra) come into the scene. Both of them are allotted the task of catching the criminal red-handed. However, catching the criminal with unknown face and unknown identity does not seem to be a cakewalk for ACP Jai and Inspector Ali. Sahir comes to know about these cops, who are roped in to eradicate the thief robbing the bank and without wasting any time, Sahir visits ACP Jai Dixit. Sahir introduces him to Jai as the owner of The Great Indian Circus and misleads him by providing some false details about the unseen thief. Post this, Jai meets Sahir in the bank for the purpose of sharing some valuable information pertaining to the thief. The actual aim of Sahir to visit Jai in the bank is to have an eagle-eye view of the bank's latest systems. Sahir captures the very minute details of the bank in the hidden camera in his shirt's button and again makes a successful robbery armed with all the unthinkable gizmos. Eventually, Jai comes to know that thief is none other than Sahir Khan himself and the story unfolds an extremely shocking truth that makes everyone thunderstruck. A big surprise awaits to be unwrapped! Direction And Other Technical Aspects: "Bande hain hum uske, Hum pe kiska jor, Ummidon ke sooraj, Nikle charo aur, Iraade hain faulaadi, Himmati har kadam, Apne haaton kismat likhne aaj chale hain hum" is the line with which the film seems to begin with and ends with! The director Vijay Krishna Acharya this time has incepted something edgy, wonderful and something with a midas touch. This pacy-thriller has whetted the appetite of the cine buffs and sounds like all-in-one package that covers the emotions, actions, drama and love. This hit and chase game oozes more style and panache than the Dhoom predecessors and this factor holds potential to certainly make it stand out of the crowd. Our leather-suited protagonist Aamir Khan is speed-happy and thus, moves with a panther-like grace and this form the soul of the film with more gravity defying action stunts pining for audience's attention. The first half of the film engages the audience with all the "dhamakedaar" entries of Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif; thus gains more claps and whistles. The second half bends towards an emotional side but retains the grip perfectly. Talking about the movie highlights, it can be Aamir Khan's introductory action scene in which he runs vertically on the building well-equipped with the all high-tech gadgets and then, makes a roaring entry on his super bike. Abhishek Bachchan makes an unthinkable auto rickshaw entry by breaking the bricks and sets the cinema hall on a great laughter. One of the best scenes from the film can be the Aamir Khan with chiseled physique stands posing the spectacular Chicago skyline and whispers the lines "Bande hain hum......" which he used to speak along with his father. Albeit, Uday Chopra's character seems repetitive, this time Chopra dude throws some catchier one-liners and shines well in his role. The direction is excellent and the film yearns to break fresh ground and unearth new power-packed chase sequence. The mind-boggling script, screenplay, background score and cinematography add a cherry on the cake. The awesome storyline ensures the viewers' eyes don't stir from the screen for three hours. The sole loophole to mention about is the story lacks realism at certain points like after robbery, Aamir keeps on escaping on his bike like anything in front of a huge flock of Policemen and their cars. But, the cops don't fire a single bullet on him to catch the hold of this tech-savvy crook. However, the pros weigh much higher than the cons in the film and tag it as a masterpiece. The film takes the leaf out of the book and ventilates the creative steam by presenting high-jinks drama. In all, it can be described as one brave cop, one tech-savvy crook, the fast-paced bikes and the adrenaline rush they bring along. Talking about the visual effects in the film, the technical wizardry just gets better and better and the film is embedded with creme de la creme VFX. In a nutshell, this endless runner flick conveys a feeling of thrill and is a total paisa vasool. Performance: Versatility is his middle name. Aamir Khan turned a true-blue game changer and attested himself as the stamp of excellence by performing unbelievable bike stunts. The actor with the finest talent is like water and takes the shape of any mould in which he is put in. Aamir with his hot bod can be labeled as the toast of the season and is the real treasure that pales the other artists before his luster. Mr. Perfectionist has left an unforgettable impression on viewer's mind and left them craving for more of him. The scintillating Katrina Kaif proved a sizzler on the roof in this flick, in whatever she has done, be it turning acrobat in circus or grooving on "Kamli" track. Katrina looks like a million bucks in the track "Malang" and of course steals the show. Though she has got to perform very little role to perform in this flick, she once again proved her as the blockbuster material. Abhishek Bachchan has portrayed a stern, trendy and confident cop, who is determined about reaching to his goal. His mighty voice tone and towering personality prove to be a great add-on for this role. Uday Chopra has performed surprisingly well this time by having praiseworthy comic timing and by doing great action stunts. The ace star Jackie Shroff had an extended cameo and provided full justice to his role by playing it with utmost perfection. Andrew Bicknell performed very well as an antagonist and Tabrett Bethell lent a good support. Music: Finally, the cat is out of the bag and the classy compositions by Pritam Chakraborty are waiting to keep one engaged with their magical tunes. The most extravagant "Malang" is a fine mix of Sufi and rock covered with Arabic, Indian and western wrap. The eclectic "Dhoom Signature Tune" sets the ball rolling with semi-classical alaaps. The mesmerizing track "Kamli" is once again dipped in Sufi flavor and is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. The song proves to be a visual delight with the stunning Katrina Kaif performing some never-seen-before intricate dance moves. The lavish love ballad "Tu Hi Junoon" with tender rock touch sounds melodious and tuneful illustrating romance between Aamir and Katrina. And the highlight piece "Dhoom Tap" is simply marvelous to see and it scorches the screen with Aamir's fantabulous tap dance. Final Verdict: This action-saga will switch you off from the work mode and you will want more on your plate. It is ready to write a whole new story and dominates everything that comes in its way. Action stunts do all the talking and the power rangers take the show on their shoulders. Get your tickets for this tussling ride today. Whistles, whistles and more whistles!
