Nannu (Jimmy Shergill) is a small time gangster who works under the patronage of Baba Bhandari (Saurabh Shukla). Badri Pathak (Mukesh Tiwari) is his chief rival. Corrupt police inspector Sajjan Singh (Yashpal Sharma) and contract killer Ballu Thapa (Raj Zutshi) are the other major players in the field. While his fiery wife Sharbati (Mahie Gill) and doting mother (Supriya Pilgaonkar) support his lifestyle, his younger brother Munnu (Nandish Singh), who runs a coaching class is opposed to it.
Family of Thakurganj has nothing new to say about the dynamics of gangster clans, police corruption and lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh, so it tries to delay the inevitable. The 127-minute crime drama initially unfolds as a series of vignettes about the brothers Nannu and Munnu and the rogues' gallery that rules the Thakurganj town. The plot kicks in very late, and a bit too late to rescue the movie from utter predictability and sameness.
Set in the small town of Thakurganj, this drama revolves around the story of two brothers Nunnu (Jimmy Sheirgill) and Munnu (Nandish Singh). With different ideologies in life will they part ways or be together to fight against the injustice they suffer?
It's a week of Jimmy Sheirgill double bill. And he, along with a set of reliable veteran actors, remains the only strong reason to head for a multiplex. Family of Thakurganj has an army of polished performers. However, while they try to put their best foot forward, the film is unable to rise up to their talent.
Nunnu and Munnu are brothers, but given how different they are, one law-abiding, the other a terror, they could well be from different planets. As they say, you can choose your friends, not family, and these two constitute a family in the fictional town of Thakurganj in which bullets fly, crime is rampant, and the law is an ass. Or rather, a corpulent wise guy called Baba Bhandari, played by Saurabh Shukla, who decides everyone's fate in Thakurganj, while handing out a pithy saying here, a death sentence there.
