She was a kiddo when she made her screen debut in the year 1980 as a child artist in the film 'Kalyug'. The stunning actress was born on February 4, 1974. She hails from a Kudaldeshkar family in Mumbai. The artist is a daughter of a police officer.
Urmila is ruling over the minds of her fans with her mesmerizing beauty and her unique acting style. The tiny lady appeared as a child artist in the film 'Masoom' (1983) by Shekhar Kapur. In this movie, she was featured in a very famous song called 'Lakdi ki Kaathi'. Her role in the movies proved a memorable one. In 1987, Urmila acted in the film named 'Dacait'. In the year 1989, Urmila starred in Malayalam super hit flick 'Chanakyan' with Kamal Haasan. The year 1991 saw Urmila as adult debutant in Hindi cinema with the movie 'Narsimha' opposite Sunny Deol. The iconic beauty launched herself as a mainstream actress with the popular movies like 'Rangeela' (1995), 'Judaai' (1997) and 'Satya' (1998). The actress also received Filmfare nominations for these roles. Her immense acting skills and dancing style were subjected to appreciation in these films. The film 'Rangeela' proved as a turning point in her career, as the songs of Asha Bhosle, A. R. Rahman's music and outfits by Manish Malhotra modified the status of Urmila from actress to seductress.
Urmila acted in a fantasy-flick 'Chamatkaar' with then-debutant Shah Rukh Khan. In the film 'Kaun' (1999), she played a character of psychopath. In the horror-flick 'Bhoot', she was seen as a possessed woman, while in 'Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya', Urmila essayed the role of a possessive lover. 'Ek Hasina Thi' was the film in which she portrayed a ruthless avenger. Urmila bagged Filmfare Award for the Best Actress (Critic) category for the movie 'Bhoot'. Post this, she grabbed leading roles in the other films like 'Pinjar' (2003), 'Tehzeeb' (2003), 'Bas Ek Pal' (2006) and 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara' (2005).
Though her films 'Aflatoon' (1997) and 'Daud' (1997) didn't do well at the box-office, her acting in those movies was worth appreciation. The ultimate diva tasted the sensible success with her movies like 'Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain', 'Jaanam Samjha Karo' and 'Khoobsurat'. Other good films of Urmila include 'Mast' (2000), 'Jungle' (2000), 'Naina' (2005), 'Bedardi' (1993), 'Kanoon' (1994), 'Hindustani' (1996), 'Kudrat' (1998),'Deewane' (2000), 'Kunwara' (2000), 'Deewangee' (2002), 'Company' (2002), 'Dillagi' (1999), 'Banaras' (2006), 'Om Jai Jagdish' (2002), 'Speed' (2007), 'Emi' (2008), 'Lajja' (2001) and to name a few. The actress exhibited her gray shades in the movie 'Karzzzz' in 2008.
The delicate lady was seen performing cameo in the films like 'China Gate' (1998), 'Om Shanti Om' (2007), 'Shabri' (2011), 'Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag' (2007). The actress also performed item numbers in some movies like 'Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag' and 'China Gate'.
The sizzling Urmila also appeared in one of the 3-D flick named as 'Chhota Chetan' (1998). The brilliant actress got nominated for Filmfare Best Actress Award for delivering great performance in the super hit film 'Satya' (1998).
